SOA 2.0 : Why a Revision is Really Necessary

I guess I'm a little late to the debate about "SOA 2.0". However, after going through the arguments, I will have go squarely against the petitioners. The petitioners would have everyone believe that SOA is a well defined idea that has worked wonders in practice. On the contrary, SOA is a term as nebulous as ever, and one in seven SOA endeavors end up in failure. The ideas and concepts behind SOA are just like its WS-NonexistentStandards underpinnings. That is it is careening towards a massive pileup.

JCR and Web 2.0: A Good Fit or Too Heavy for Today's Web?

Yesterday, I received an email about a presentation at TheServerSide Java Symposium by Day Software highlighting the use of the Java Content Repository (JCR) in the Web 2.0 world. PHP 5.3 - A Heavy Hitter in Training

The evolution of PHP into an object-oriented programming language has been a very exciting process to watch. I'll admit its advancement seems to move at a glacial pace at times, but looking back we certainly have come a long way. With the release of 5.0 we saw PHP leave its childhood and enter its awkward adolescent stage. At this point there is evidence of a mature and complex object-oriented language while stilll exhibiting many of its younger habits. So what's in store for us next? Let me explain . . .

After a long lull, things seem to be changing at the W3C — there are two competing specifications under development to replace the aging HTML 4.x and XHTML 1.x standards. Both initiatives are working under the auspices of the W3C, and both are vastly superior to the current crop of web markup languages. They are HTML 5 and XHTML 2.0.

The Future of JSON

I am a huge supporter of JSON as a means of communicating with the server side in an Ajax application (you can use JSON as a means of communication on all tiers of an application using a library, but I'm going to mainly focus on the client side for this post). Google Pagerank + Knickers = Twist

I don’t really know what to say… people are still tying themselves in knots over the latest Google Pagerank Update. People claiming they’re turning their back on Google because Google knocked them down a few PR notches for them trying to increase PR by spending a shed load of money on links - I mean it’s outrageous they do that! [/sarcasm] - I’d like to see these people actually turn their back on Google and give up all their traffic, somehow I doubt they’d do that though. But anyway! Back to my point.
