Beehive is an Apache project that simplifies J2EE and Web Services programming. Beehive simplifies the J2EE programming model by using Java Annotations (JSR 175) reducing the number of artifacts a developer has to interact with.

Beehive is made up of three pieces:

  • NetUI: An annotation-driven MVC web-framework built on top of Struts.
  • Controls: A lightweight, metadata-driven component framework based on Java Beans. In addition, there is a set of System controls providing access to resources such as EJBs, JDBC and JMS.
  • Web Service Metadata (WSM): An implementation of JSR-181 which standardizes an annotation model for Java web services.
