DIY - How to Use your Tow Hook as Digital Camera Mount!

Click Here to View in Full Screen Mode

Check out this DIY on how to use your tow hook as a digital camera mount.  This will be good for those of you speed racers out there who can’t get enough digital footage of your own car.

Now, I’d like to see someone put this on a Tow Hook on a SUV to get some backdoor footage too.

What this is good for: autox, backroads, a camera you don’t care that much about.
What is it not good for: on the track (you need the tow hook operational duh!), in the dirt (might work, but the camera might die), snow (see dirt).

Warning: Some people have claimed that in an accident the tow hook will prevent the airbags from deploying properly. I haven’t tested this, be warned that this may or may not be the case and there is some risk involved with this.

McCain has 13 cars and 7 houses!

Well, maybe McCain didn’t make all his money to buy 7 houses and 13 cars just from being a politician all his life, but it’s true, McCain can hardly remember how many houses he owns.  (I don’t blame him, he’s at that age…)

In contrast, Barrack Obama owns 1 Ford Escape Hybrid.

For rich people, McCain might be the right pick but for everyone else and the majority of people, I think Barrack Obama will server us better, not because he’s got only 1 car, because at least he can clearly remember how many homes and cars he has.

I think voting for McCain for President would be like putting an almost-dead guy on the bench, can we get someone who’s not going to die on the job PLEASE from heart attacks?

Okay, that’s my 2 cents on politicians today.

McCain owns a 2004 Cadillac CTS as his daily driver, and it gets less interesting from there. Rounding out the Maverick’s sizable stable is a 2005 VW convertible, a 2001 Honda sedan, a 2007 Ford pickup, a 2008 Wrangler, a 2000 Lincoln, a 2001 GMC SUV, three 2000 NEV Gem electric cars, and a vintage 1960 Willys Jeep.

Dad’s Cab Taxi Meter for Making your Kids Pay!

Dad's Cab Taxi Meter for Making Money Off Your Kids!

Dad

Check out Dad’s Cab Taxi Meter that will let you charge your kids for any free “rides” they take from you in the form of cleaning dishes, mowing the lawn, and other household tasks.

Although I think this gadget is pretty pointless, the fact that it’s so pointless makes it funny to use.  It’s so ridiculous, it’s cool!

Gifts for dads don’t come much better than this Gift of the Year Award winner, Dad’s Cab. Dad’s Cab is a novelty taxi meter that comes with an assortment of forfeit cards that overworked dads can dish out to their blood-sucking children by way of a bill. Payments include ingenious tasks like ‘tidy your room’ and ‘make dad a cup of tea’ – that’s no more free rides for the kids and some well-deserved rewards for dad!

How to Turn your iPhone into a Dyno with Dynolicious!

How to Turn your iPhone into a Dyno with Dynolicious!

Here’s a cool new iPhone app called Dynolicious that will turn your iPhone into a real Dyno using iPhone’s already-capable accelerometer.

This is definitely going to beat buying a stand-along Dyno or making an accelerometer yourself.

Dynolicious is the first automotive performance meter available for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Dynolicious uses the hardware built-in to your iPhone to measure the performance characteristics of your vehicle. No external wires or equipment is necessary, simply slip the iPhone into a cradle or cupholder and go!

Some of the performance metrics Dynolicious can measure:

  • 0-60 Acceleration
  • 1/4 Mile Elapsed Time
  • Lateral G’s
  • Horsepower

Unlike other accelerometer-based performance meters, Dynolicious uses the advanced data-handling and display capabilities of the iPhone to make the most of your performance testing. Dynolicious maintains a history of test runs, showing you averages and trends in your results. Dynolicious also allows you to enter modifications performed to your vehicle, and will instantly show before-and-after results to easily identify gains or losses.

Korean JATY Navigation does Breathalyzer!

Korean JATY Navigation does Breathalyzer!

Here’s an innovative idea for all future navigation systems, to include a breathalyzer.  How many DUI convictions would we save for an extra sensor and some stupid program that’d probably cost the navigation manufacturer extra 5 bucks?

At least, we know exactly what “level” we are on before driving.

Those crazy Koreans have brought out a new auto toy to tell if you’re fit to drive after a few jars of the sauce. Yes, the JATY DR7200 doubles as a breathalyzer as well as a GPS buddy, MP3 player, ebook reader, DMB television device, games console and all round modern day motoring Swiss Army Knife.

DIY - How to Make Fakeout Stereo to Deter Thieves!

Here’s a cool instructables on how to make a fakeout stereo face to deter thieves from stealing your precious stereo face.

This faceplate is made using the original Delco radio/cassette tape player that came with the truck, some Velcro, and a lot of epoxy glue. I left half of a cassette sticking out of the tape player for added effect.

Porsche 911 Engine Test on Virtual Tracks!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv53RbvgfGc

Here’s a cool innovative way that Porsche 911 engine is tested using a simulated virtual race track.

Video after the jump.

Click Here to View in Full Screen Mode

The engineering geniuses at Porsche have designed a special moving dyno to test g-loads in a virtual ‘Ring. The system was used to test the upgraded dry sump oil system for the new 3.6- and 3.8-liter boxer engines powering the 2009 911 Carrera and Carrera S. The dry sump system now has a variable-flow pressure pump that needed to be tested extensively at the ‘Ring, but the new system can perform the same task whenever engineers want, and at a fraction of the cost.

How to Geo-Map your Movies!

How to Geo-Map your Movies!

With Seero, I guess you can even geo-map your movies.  It’s interesting as this movie is based on San Francisco streets and I know where they shot it.

It’d be way cool if all new movies came out with a PiP screen of Google Maps showing the location.  (maybe one day when Google starts buying theaters…)

I’m a huge fan of ‘the king of cool’ and of all movie car-chase scenes. I thought it would be great to mashup famous chases with their GPS tracks. Keep in mind some of the chases cut from one place to another…so I tried to be as accurate as possible. Enjoy!

DIY Paper Origami V-12 Four-Stroke Engine!

Paper Origami V-12 Four-Stroke Engine!

Click Here to View in Full Screen Mode

This paper origami V12 engine actually runs!  You can buy plans from the creator here.

Built by a self-employed Montreal man named Yee, the Origami V-12 is a paper engine that pumps just like real engines (with the help of electrical wires, a resistor, a motor and a battery holder). It looks complicated because it is: One V-12 engine consists of 195 sheets of fine-printed patterns. From those sets, 1,978 pieces are used in total. And it only weighs 3.2 lbs when finished. This makes your 1,000-piece puzzle look like a piece of cake.
