Download Google Earth on the iPhone!

Well, Google Earth is now available as a free app for your iPhone/iPod Touch.  Although I don’t think I will need it as GoogleMap satellite imagery and street views are enough for me, if you need the whole 3D map in your iPhone, go knock yourself out.

Download Google Earth for iPhone here

Google Earth lets people virtually fly around a 3D view of the world made from satellite and aerial imagery mapped onto the planet’s mountains and valleys. The iPhone version reproduces this core experience, downloading imagery from Google’s servers as the perspective shifts and dotting the map with landmarks, photos, and other information.

DIY - How to Make a Fruit Fly Trap under a Buck!

If you live in a certain area with high temperatures and humidity, your house might be prone to attract a lot of fruit flies.  They are harmless but sometimes you will need to control them using DIY methods such as this involving a water bottle, apple cider, and more simple household materials.

It seems our house has been overrun with fruit flies this fall with all the garden vegetables fruit in the house. So we built a DIY fruit fly trap to try and reduce the “herd”. My wife read about making a fruit fly trap from a water bottle so we gave it a try.

Beer Belt Lets You Loose Like a Kite at the Casinos in Vegas!

Beer Belt Lets You Loose Like a Kite at the Casinos in Vegas!

What you should really do the next time you fly to Las Vegas is to pack one of these Beer Belts so you can play at the BlackJack tables without worrying about almost-naked waitress ladies to ask you if you want another drink.  Better yet, order 6 beers at a time, that way you have more ammo to go longer.

In any case, the Beer Belt certainly has more uses than your typical, geeky PDA belt.

Martin Jetpack

Yey, the Martin Jetpack is out.  It looks like a lot of fun, maybe even more so than hang gliding.

Little is known about the capabilities of this flying machine, though sources familiar with its design say it can fly 100 times longer than previous jetpacks. Historically, 26 seconds has been the endurance of previous technology. This being the case, the Martin Jetpack could potentially be able to fly for as much as 40 minutes at a time on a single tank of gas.

Skydiving!

If you are looking to skydive and you are in the States, you might want to check out SkyDiving.com as they offer nationwide reservations for skydiving lessons.

I will have to hold off on my first skydiving lesson but it’s good to know that you can learn to fly air. (or even really let yourself go if you get one of those batman-like wingsuits)

Check out some of the stages of lessons you can expect:

Stage 1

Training: Approximately 5 hours ground training and jump with 2 instructors.

Objectives: Stable body position, altitude awareness, parachute activation, radio assisted landing.

Stage 2

Training: Body awareness, ground training and jump with 2 instructors.

Objectives: Stable body relaxation, pilot chute throw and turning techniques, radio assisted landing.

Stage 3

Training: Hover control and holding a direction, and jump with 2 instructors.

Objectives: Balanced body position, hover control, hold heading, radio assisted landing.

Stage 4

Training: Consolidation of previous levels. Repeat of stage 3. Depending on progress your jump will be with 1 or 2 instructors, with or without radio assisted landing.

Stage 5

Training: Learning to turn and jump with 1 instructor.

Objectives: Linked or unlinked freefall, 360 degree turns.

Stage 6

Training: Consolidation repeat of stage 5 with forward movement and jump with 1 instructor.

Objectives: To consolidate progress and achieve forward movement.

Stage 7

Training: Backloops and tracking and jump with 1 instructor.

Objectives: Dive exit, backloops, 180-degree turn, delta, flare and wave off.

Future Hovering Spy Drones Reviewed!

Click Here to View in Full Screen Mode

Here’s an interesting video on future hovering spy drones.  Well, my hopes are there are no wars in the future and that these future hovering spy drones will only serve to prevent wars.  Where are my tax dollars damn Uncle Sam?

This video shows, which is a lot of fun to watch, shows STARMAC, the Stanford Testbed of Autonomous Rotorcraft for Multi-Agent, described as “a testbed of 6 quadrotor helicopter unmanned aerial vehicles that fly indoors and outdoors to experiment with autonomous agent algorithms.”
