PySoy is a Python-based 3D engine for free software games.
The engine is designed for rapid game development by providing an intuitive high-level Python API and dynamic interfaces for manipulating 3D environments.
PySoy currently runs on Linux, OSX, and Windows.
It supports multiple windows, splash windows, and full screen mode using each platform’s native windowing system: X11, Carbon, and Win32 respectively.
OpenGL features are limited to those available using free software drivers and the engine is tuned to perform best on those drivers.
The engine targets low-end 3D accelerated video cards to support a majority of computer users.
PySoy started as a community-based fork of the Soya3d project in June 2006 and has since been entirely rewritten to overcome critical flaws in that engine’s design.
The engine now boasts threading for it’s physics and render cycle, ODE integrated for all 3D elements, field and buoyancy physics, rich multi-texturing, and a much higher frame rate.
Currently in testing and heavy development, beta 3 is set for release March 2008.
