Project WebSynergy has enjoyed a couple of recent positive developments: First, Adam Bien is a consultant and book author and has blogged about GlassFish in the past. Recently Adam blogged about the prospects of WebSynergy becoming the killer GlassFish Portal Server - I happen to share this outlook. He was right about GlassFish being the Killer AppServer after all!
Second, Sandeep headed up an effort to get some university students engaged with Sun's open source communities and projects - specifically, GlassFish, WebSynergy (and its NetBeans components). It was a big success, and as part of the larger GlassFish Community, students submitted their project as GAP entries. In addition, this project garnered awareness in their respective academic groups. Kudos to the teams!

Java Champion, Adam Bien has been running the following series of blogs around EJB 3 in the past few days -
|
Adam makes several points around the "lightweightness" of EJB's both at development time and runtime, contrasts the EJB3 approach with similar yet different technologies like Spring or Guice, and takes the upcoming EJB 3.1 improvements into account concluding that EJB's should be considered as no more than "midweight". Overall this three-part set of posts is a very nice read with fact-based opinions.
Adam Bien is an independent consultant and a member of the several JCP Expert Groups (EJB 3.1, Java EE 6, ...) and will be presenting on GlassFish v2 and v3 at Jazoon next week in Zurich, Switzerland.

Arun has a blog entry up announcing the availability of the JavaOne '08 "TicTacToe" demo from the glassfish-scripting site. The source code for the Java EE, Rails and Grails applications are all available along with some documentation. What makes this demo interesting is GlassFish v3's fast startup, dynamic behavior (loading the web container, the JRubyOnRails or the Groovy runtimes on demand), but also how multiple applications written in different languages and frameworks can be hosted in the same environment while sharing things such as a comet context. |
Arun and the team are taking feedback on webtier-AT-glassfish.dev.java.net or on the GlassFish WebTier Forum. If this scripting topic is of interest to you, you should probably follow Vivek's blog, the Scripting for GlassFish lead.
