Hi, Im currently doing a levels at school and after this year I have one year left. Im studying art, photography, geography and media studies.

Im doing freelance design work at the moment and without really trying to get work, website design work is being put my way.

Everything I earn from it at the moment I am saving because in the long run I want to set up my own design business.

What should I do after A levels is my question? Im tempted to stop education and start my own business up from then and see how the work flow goes for 6 months or so and if worse comes to worst, apply for a job with an agency in London or the likes and then - if ALL else fails, go back to Uni a year or so later.

I have to do a presentation at work using MS powerpoint.

Does anyone have any links to any free templates i can download that i can use.

Looking for something quite funky as my presentation will be judged on style and wow(atism?) and i have no idea how to use powerpoint and it has to be in tomorrow so i dont have time to learn!!

I'm having one doubt regarding bitmaps. Is that possible to know the RGB value of any bitmap.

For eg: I'm having bitmap like this...
. . . B
.K. . .
. . . C
B . . .
Here B- blue, C- cyan K - black, . - white

For the above bitmap, can I know what is its RGB value.
Is there any tool for this or can we find programmatically.

Any help, suggestion would be great.

Hi there.
Im a 3rd year student and completely skint!!! suprise, suprise. Just wondering if anyone knows of any way i could find work designing logos for clients ( not logo competitions ) but almost one off designs or maybe once a month. I dont have alot of time, what with uni work, part time work and intoxicated weekends. Would like to get work locally and set up an ad in Gumtree, but thats just a load of b*llocks!
Not sure if im ready to step up from competitions. my portfolio is here Euan Mackenzie Designs what do you think? any ideas? :)

My boss has entrusted me with the task of creating a website for our company, a civil engineering company(really small) and I need some pointers as to where to begin from. Let me tell you all a lil' bit about myself. I had worked on web development about 8 years ago and have been out of it since. But, my boss likes to believe that I can recreate that magic and that brings me here. I am the toying with the idea of using a web template specifically made for civil engineering company, but haven't found one yet. My requirements are pretty simple, nothing fancy- Main page, Services, Gallery(to upload photos of past projects) and Contacts form. It would be great if any of y'all gurus can shed some light on what can be done here.

i heard google is 84 characters, yahoo is in the low 100s...

do any other search engines have lower limits? i'm looking for the lowest common denominator, if you will.

My situation is as this topic states, Coming up with good questions to ask a client. I know I probably need seperate lists of questions; web design, logo design, etc. I just looking for suggestions on good questions to ask in general, I have started a list of about 12 questions, but I would appreciate the opinions of people that have more experience than I, I have only been doing paid design work on the side over the past year, and it doesnt provide alot of experience when you are busy with a full time job and school. anyway, thanks in advance for any suggested questions that are posted.

I got a problem on one of my style sheets

I have a main div id called news

in my css i have news a { which has it's certain styles defined which will created all top nav links a certain style

now within that div i have another link but i dont want it to have the same css at i have given the others, but because it is in the news div it holds onto them styles

How do i go about creating a unique style for this 2nd a tag?

putting it outside the div isnt an option and i have already tried giving it its own class,

whats the most annoying thing is that this is such a NEWB question, i know the answer to it but racking my brains trying to think of it,

Someone sent me an illustrator file. When I open it, it tells me there are missing fonts. The person sent me a folder with all the Fonts. These font files are all empty, is there a way for me to view the file properly with the fonts?
