“American Idol” — Cook-ed by TXT Messages

Even if, like me, you don’t much care about David Cook, you have to hand it to the hit FOX reality series: It’s putting SMS systems to maximum use, turning them into a giant cash machine. AT&T says the most recent season of “American Idol” show generated 78 million text messages — up from 67 million last season. And an informal poll conducted by the company on its web site reveals that 51 percent of the 416 respondents tended to text more frequently during the “American Idol” season than other times of the year. Another twenty-two percent said they first learned to text message by voting for their favorite “Idol” contestant. Now only if Ma Bell could tell us how much money they are really raking from this tie-up with the talent-based reality show.

What do you need a Record Label for?

Well for on the obvious reason you would want a label for that big push to the mass market to get your product hot to sell. Expensive videos, radio promotion, record store signings all this effort on a artist that is not sold a copy. So whats happing now, People are discovering bands instead of waiting for the radio station to play the next big hit.

Music today is so easy to make with good quality that the talent now out supplies the distribution of music. Meaning there are more songs created by more people faster then the labels can put out and now labels have to find out that there is better talent on the internet then there own roster.

You could call the year 2007 the revolution of music. Anybody with a tempo can sell a record and the labels can’t do a damn thing about it. Not to mention that promoting your product cost next to nothing with you doing the research. When labels realize that they are losing a up hill battle with freedom of the artist and power to the people to make artist popular and not just ram it down our throats and make us like it. It will be too late Sony BMG, EMI, Universal and Warner .

Ever Wonder What American Idol’s Use For Gear Backstage?

It Seems that M-audio Is the Idol’s favorite choice when it comes to rehearsing for that big performance they got to have there M-audio.

John Beasley (left) and Rickey Minor (right) strategize in the American Idol Studio.
Beasley uses M-Audio’s Keystation Pro 88 keyboard controller to tweak software parameters while arranging compositions for Idol contestants.

Beasley tracks the contestants as they sing into the M-Audio Solaris multi-pattern large-capsule condenser microphone.

M-Audio’s MIDISPORT 4×4 is ideally suited for situations where you need to drive lots of gear from a modest number of sources—and with bus-powered operation it’s the perfect laptop companion.
