knoppix

Knoppix is a liveCD Linux distribution, featuring automatic hardware detection and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI devices, and other peripherals.

Due to Knoppix’s excellent support for a wide array of hardware and Knoppix being one of the first livecd distributions, Knoppix has virtually become a byword for bootable cd and many derivative distributions have been established based on the work the Knoppix project has done.

Knoppix packages a wide variety of software, the contents of which depends on the version—the full DVD version packaged over 2500 projects. Knoppix, unlike some other linux distributions, packages some proprietary software in addition to free software packages.

Some of the notable packages that Knoppix packages are: KDE, XMMS, Firefox, OpenOffice, K3b, and the GIMP.
