The Lightning Project

The Lightning Project is a redesign of the Mozilla Calendar component. Its goal is to tightly integrate calendar functionality (scheduling, tasks, etc.) into Mozilla Thunderbird.

Some of our future goals are (none of this is implemented right now):

  • Better Thunderbird integration: email<->task linkage, Integration with the Thunderbird address book, iMIP support (meeting invitations)
  • Improved CalDAV support
  • Cached calendar support for offline calendar use
  • Device synchronization

SeaMonkey

The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to continue the Mozilla browser suite, now that the full official browser suite has been deprecated in favor of Firefox and a distributed set of applications, like Thunderbird.

Sunbird

The Sunbird Project is a redesign of the Mozilla Calendar component. It is currently in Alpha.

Sunbird’s sister project at Mozilla is Lightning, a project to build a Thunderbird calendar extension.

Sunbird is designed to interact with other Mozilla projects via the Lightning extension.
