Tomboy : Simple note taking
Tomboy is a desktop note-taking application for Linux and Unix. Wiki-style links between notes possible, a few text layout and formatting options (bold/italic/strikethrough, bullet lists, ...). Plugins can enhance it further.
TimeVault - GNOME Backup/Snapshot System
Linux version of "Time Machine", can take immediate snapshots of new/changed files, and allows to restore previous versions. Nice as "extended recycle bin" to have it monitor documents and configuration files.
