We are happy to announce the second beta of Jaws 0.8.0 (What we do in life echoes in eternity). And as you know... this is a release which 'should' work better than beta1 but NOT be used in production systems.
As usual, we provide three tarballs:
You can get these tarballs from our site.
Now, some notes about this version before you start using it:

As many of you noticied we forgot to include the Skeleton gadget in the jaws-complete tarball of 0.7.2. This issue caused some (fatal) errors with users who wanted to upgrade with the Skeleton gadget already installed.
We've uploaded the tarball again including the Skeleton gadget.
*NOTE: This is not a bug fix release, we are just uploading the jaws-complete tarball again with the Skeleton gadget*. There's no need to update again or use this tarball if you didn't have this problem.

The eyeOS Team and eyeOS Community are proud to announce the immediate availability of eyeOS 1.6 Gala Sync. This new major release, which has been centered entirely to improve the user experience at eyeOS, includes new applications, significant improvements on the overall usability and new tools to develop better applications, faster.
The new eyeOS 1.6 Desktop includes major improvements such as Drag and Drop between folders and groups, new widgets that can be launched from Accessories menu and a common actions bar, with some overall improvements on its design and functionality.
The new Gala Sync version also includes new applications such as the new eyeFeeds to read RSS sources, the new Text Editor with syntax highlighting for the most common programming languages and autocomplete features, an integrated IDE (only launchable from root user) called eyeCode and some new Games and Tools such as eyeTetravex (a math game with a system highscores system) or the new Calculator.
The system part from eyeOS 1.6 has been also improved: Developers have new base libraries to make apps that communicate beween them and create virtual work groups, lots of small fixes on the eyeOS Toolkit Widgets and the new XML-RPC system , which is the base for the syncronization, and allows the creation of desktop applications which communicate with eyeOS.
Probably the most important feature of this release is the ability to create desktop apps that communicate eyeOS with the local computer where the user is in every moment, and the release of eyeSync (the first app to use this technology in eyeOS).

The syncronization tool for eyeOS, called eyeSync, will be an official app but will have its own versioning. The 0.1 version of eyeSync, which allows to syncronize automatically and transparently different folders from the system will be available today for Mac OS X (Tiger/PPC and Leopard/Intel) and Linux (in deb and source/targz), and during the next week for Windows XP and Vista.
eyeSync will keep the folders you indicate always synchronized with your eyeOS account without requiring any action from you: eyeSync will detect every change you do on those folders (copying/removing some files, saving or updating some documents…) and synchronize them with your eyeOS desktop, transparently and automatically.
You can download eyeSync and the new eyeOS version from the eyeOS Downloads page.
The first time you run eyeSync you will have to configure it by putting your server’s URL ( that can be the public server one, http://www.eyeos.info or your own local or remote eyeOS Server) and your username and password. Nothing special must be installed in the server, and all the data is transfered via the port 80, so you won’t encounter problems with local proxies when using it.
As usually, if you want to use the new eyeOS 1.6 version you can do it from the Public Server, which has been already updated to eyeOS 1.6, or downloading and installing to your local server. eyeOS is Open Source Software, released under the Affero GNU Public License (AGPL) version 3.
The development of this version has been done from its first days together with the eyeOS Community. From posts on the Forums regarding the new features that eyeOS 1.6 should had, the continoued contributions and suggestions to the Development Mailing lists, and a really intensive bug reporting during all the beta period.
This has been possible thanks to the more than 1.000 registered users in the Beta server, that will be closed later today.
Thanks!
It’s a bit early to say, but we can announce that the next eyeOS version won’t start by “1″, and will introduce a new eyeOS Toolkit, but always mantaining compatibility with eyeOS Toolkit 1.
We’ll be doing the announcement of the new version Roadmap and plans very soon, after the publication of the stable versions of eyeSync for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Stay tuned!

eyeOS 1.3 will be finally released on January 3rd, being the first Office-complete eyeOS release.
This extra week will be used to maximize the compatibility of the Office solution and solve some bugs that have been there since lots of versions ago. eyeOS 1.3 will be full usable on big production systems and companies, and we are making a big effort for it.
As explained in earlier posts, eyeOS 1.3 will include a full Office Suite, that will be able to read and write documents, spreadsheets and presentations in a great variety of different formats. It will also include a new collaborative calendar, and a new Internal Messaging System.
But the release won’t come alone. We have been working very hard during months in what we will be presenting the next week. A new world around the eyeOS Platform, new ways to use it, and much more.
Stay tuned! ![]()
We are proud to announce the release of the most important version of eyeOS ever: the new eyeOS 1.5 “Gala”.

eyeOS 1.5 Gala also introduces new applications, such as eyeMessages (the new Internal Messaging system) and the new eyeContacts and eyeCalendar, which have been rewritten to provide a much better functionality and new features.
There are also new services and libraries available for developers, such as the new Right Click service, which has been implemented to almost all base applications and provides a much better system usage, making it more intuitive for new users.
The new version can be downloaded here and tested in the demo server.
We think that with this version, eyeOS is now Business and Production ready, providing a really stable system to develop and port specific applications for every business. All problems regarding special characters on the whole system have been resolved, providing a much more stable user experience with the desktop and the base applications.
Since some months ago, several people inside and outside the eyeOS community has told us that had plans to use eyeOS profesionnaly. But even with companies being every day more interested about Open Source Software Solutions, they still would need 3 guarantees before moving to an OSS solution :
This is why we have decided to launch Professional Services around eyeOS, to give a strong base for spreading the eyeOS project in the business area.
We believe that being Open Source, eyeOS has great capabilities of being implemented successfully on Schools and Companies, providing Support, Personalization, Specific Development and Training to all those companies, schools and governments who are interested in.
We also announce today the availability of the new websites of :
The plans around Professional Services do include to contract and work collaboratively with people in the eyeOS Development Community with the new Professional Projects.
We want to thank specially in this release the whole community which has been testing the latest RC versions and making eyeOS better and better, to the people at OOOForum, who has helped a lot in the new eyeOffice connectors, and to Ricardo Galli, who has helped a lot on the best configurations for the new servers.
About the eyeOS Public Server, we will have it online back in the next hours. The new server will provide more space to each individual user and a great increase of velocity on the whole Server. It will be online tomorrow, with the new eyeOS 1.5 Gala version!
The official annouce of the new eyeOS Hosting Parters and an official press release about the new eyeOS 1.5 Gala will be available soon.
We would love to know where are you using eyeOS, and which apps do you use on the system, to prepare the next releases acording to eyeOS main uses. Please take 20 seconds to answer this two polls:
We will be adding a new poll to resume the main whishes and blueprints for eyeOS 1.6 (add yours at this Forums’ topic) so the Roadmap of eyeOS 1.6 will be built with the most voted ideas.
Thanks!

We are very happy to announce the first stable version of Jaws 0.7.0 which should now work on production systems.
And as you know, the next stable (bug fixes) versions will be numbered under 0.7.x (ie 0.7.1, 0.7.2... etc). If you want to use the svn 0.7.x versions we suggest you to use the one located at:

We are releasing the second stable version of the 0.7 family: 0.7.1.
This release fixes many things like:
Requirements
* PHP >= 4.3.6 * MySQL >= 3.23.49 (if you use MySQL) * Apache 1.3, Apache 2, Cherokee >> 0.4.29 (under fcgi) and IIS
Suggestions
During this bug-squashing stage I found a little problem with Dreamhost (cause I've some accounts with them).
If you want to have links like: index.php/blog/show/32 (passing params via the pathinfo) you can't do that on dreamhost if you are using PHP 4.2.x with CGI. If you really want to use those links, just change to PHP 5.2.x (cgi or fcgi) otherwise your links will be like index.php?blog/show/32 (note that we replace the first / with a ?).

Happy 2008 everyone! It’s a new year, and what better way to kick it off by releasing the long awaited Pigg Beta 9.9.0
I’ll leave the technical stuff to the change log but I’m sure you will agree this is the best version of Pligg yet. Besides a slew of core improvements and a multitude of bug fixes, the first thing you will notice is a slight change to the installation process. We are rolling out a language fetching feature to the installation process. This will allow you to select a language, then the installer will connect to the Pligg servers to download the most up to date language pack.
Another new addition is Template Management. This will allow you to download and install templates instantly. You can also repackage templates for distribution much easier.
Some other great features included in this version are the addition of the Akismet anti-spam, and new Captcha module for registrations which allows for different types of Captcha methods to be used. Agree-to-Terms allows you to set up a user agreement upon registration.
We would like to thank everyone that made 2007 a great year for Pligg and we promise that 2008 will be the best year yet!

We’re proud to announce the new eyeOS User Manual (PDF - 25 pages), a handbook which explains how to use eyeOS, from the creation of a new account to the usage of the common applications and system customization.
It’s thought to be printed and consulted when using eyeOS, by end-users, who may not have technical knowledges.
The new user manual is an important step on working with eyeOS in a production environment, as a first help for the eyeOS users.
Download the eyeOS User Manual (PDF file)
If you are interested in translating the eyeOS Manual to your language, please contact us at team@eyeos.org and we’ll send you the necessary files. Thanks!
We are proud to announce that eyeOS 1.2 has just been released!
It’s not just a necessary update on eyeOS 1.x., but also a bunch of new features and applications needed by eyeOS to be really useful for the every day use. Need to send a mail? Well, just open eyeMail. Did your friend send a Microsoft Word file? No problem, eyeOS will open it and allow you to modify it. Want to have multiple groups for family and friends to share information between them? eyeControl 1.2 will let you do that and much more, visually.
And much more:
Microsoft Word (.doc) compatibility
By just uploading a MS Word file and clicking on it, eyeVisor will pop up and show you the document. You can edit it by clicking on the Edit button, and saving it back when you’re ready. That simple.
Send me a mail!
Since you can add as many accounts as you want in your eyeOS Mail Client, you can have, from everywhere and in a single place, access to all your mails accounts.
Multiple File Upload
While the big improvement in MFU has been delayed until 1.2.1, eyeOS 1.2 includes real multiple upload, Gmail style, that will allow you to choose all the files you want to upload to your eyeOS account.
Design improvements here and there
The desktop bar, the eyeDock icons and the application icons are just few examples of the design improvements in eyeOS 1.2. That would have been impossible without Marc, the eyeOS designer (No, he’s not leaving eyeOS to work for anyone else
.
A real and powerful Control Center
eyeControl 1.2 (mainly developed by Lars Knickrehm) features lots of options to customize your desktop (if you’re a normal user) or to full administrate your server (if you’re the administrator), allowing you to create and remove groups and users, customizing the eyeSoft repositories, activating / deactivating user creation and much more.

Full FTP client, done 100% with the eyeOS Toolkit
The new eyeFTP (developed by Anaël Ollier) allows you to browse public and private FTP servers, and the most important, inter-actuate with them. Upload and download files from the FTP server to your eyeOS server or to your computer, even if your actual connection does not allow access to the FTP port: all you’re doing is moving trough your eyeOS system, and is the server which is handling the FTP connection.
Customize your Dock
Finally! Create new groups and move applications between them, and add the applications you have downloaded from eyeSoft/Packages Center to your dock. Everything from the new Applications Manager.
Not just videos. Also Movies.
The new eyeMovies features the latest codec support for being able to view big video files encoded as DivX from your eyeOS system. Just upload your movie and launch it, and eyeOS will do the rest.
Compress and uncompress.
The new eyeArchive, which opens automatically when you click a Zip file allows you to uncompress your zip files and create new ones from folders and files.
How many space did you said I have?
With eyeOS 1.2 and its new quotas system, you can control how many space do your users have on your server. Users will be able to check their used space from eyeControl, and the admin will be able to have full control over the used space of the eyeOS installation.
Automatic Thumbnails!
If your server does have the GD library installed and enabled you’ll see thumbnails of your images instead of the classic image icon.
Developers, developers, developers!
New widgets are included (Toolbar,Tree, Progressbar…) as well as new libraries to communicate with outside eyeOS. The eyeOS API is finally marked as stable in eyeOS 1.2.0.
And what’s next?
While eyeOS 1.2 represents a great step on the eyeOS everyday usage, there is still a long road to go. Stay tuned for the official roadmap for eyeOS 1.3, planned for December 27th, during the next days, and the small updates on the 1.2.x!Thanks a lot for the continued support, testing and programming for this new release. Lars, Anaël, Vilu, and all of you who have been connected into the SVN development: Thanks.
Download eyeOS 1.2.0!
As usually, you can download the new version Installer and Updater from the Downloads Page. Documentation and translation tables will be updated soon!
We’re proud to announce that eyeOS 1.2.0 will be finally released the next Monday (October 29th).The Roadmap has finally suffered some small changes, and a big last-weeks include, which was planned for eyeOS 1.3: The Microsoft Word (.doc) file support for both reading and writing!
The full release changelog and improvements will be published the next Monday. Thanks to everybody who has helped on its development trough the forums, the IRC channel and the SVN server!
Update: Patience, it’s almost here
As some of you have noticed, we have finally decided not to release an official package as “eyeOS 1.2.0.0 beta“, however, the final release date is not moved.
We have decided not to release the 1.2 beta mainly because some of the new system widgets, necessary to send out a beta of some components are not ready yet to the public.
To all of you who would like to see how is eyeOS 1.2 development, you can take a look at the official Subversion server, which will be full updated daily during the next week, and we’re getting reports about all stuff there.
We’ll be releasing the official Roadmap of eyeOS 1.3 and some cool new stuff arround the future steps at the project very soon. Stay tuned!
