Rockbox is a replacement firmware project for a variety of MP3 players, including most iPod versions. Rockbox allows for a degree of customizability rarely seen in stock MP3 players of any kind. Rockbox uses a small bootloader in the firmware of an MP3 player to load a small custom system for playing music.
The Rockbox system is built as an extensible platform, and new functionalities can be included via plugins.
Rockbox allows complete customization of a portable audio player, including changing fonts, changing colors, changing images and backgrounds.
Music navigation follows a folder paradigm, or an ID3 tagging paradigm.
