SASH is a collection of open source Java frameworks that lets developers quickly building sophisticated enterprise applications. For years, developers have loved the high-powered computing made possible by J2EE, but have lamented the hoops they needed to jump through to get “serious” applications working and deployed. No one expects enterprise computing to be easy, but many have felt the J2EE programming model added unnecessary complexity.

As a result, many application frameworks have emerged from the Open Source world, where developers in the community took it upon themselves to fix various problems inherent in the J2EE approach. Because they provide substantial improvements and are readily available, many of these new frameworks have taken off in popularity. Through months of customer research, we have culled through dozens of alternatives to assemble this cohesive stack of four components and their dependencies, which has resulted in SourceLabs SASH stack for Java. We made our decisions on what to include in the stack based on how enterprise IT organizations were using Java in actual deployments, the quality and technical value of the frameworks, their market acceptance and the strength of the communities supporting them.

One of the key goals for this release of SASH is to help prove the operational quality of the stack as an integrated whole under conditions that resemble use in an actual enterprise data center. We did this by going beyond the standard unit-testing of individual projects that has, to-date, been the traditional focus of quality assurance for these projects. Existing users of SASH or elements of SASH want greater assurance that the particular versions they are using are high quality, and new customers contemplating adopting the SASH stack, or elements of it, would like assurance that the software meets their internal expectations for quality and operation. With SourceLabs extensive CERT7 testing and certification, Customers can be assured that SASH is the most dependable distribution of these open source libraries available.
