Software as a Service, or SaaS has also been called Virtual Software, on-demand software, and has many other names.
Basically, SaaS has taken over what used to be over the counter software, which came in a nice pretty box and a matching price tag.
Today we reap the benefits of SaaS:
1. You do NOT upgrade software or buy updates 2. No hardware to buy, scale or maintain 3. There are no operating systems 4. No database servers or application servers to install 5. No consultants and staff to manage it all
SaaS is like subscribing to your favorite magazine or keeping money in a bank. You use it when you want it and for how long you want it. It’s safe and secure and regulated. When you don’t want it any more, you stop using it with no exiting barriers or costs. Great!
