EasyTag

Here's a nice screen shot of EasyTag running through my music files. It is a very nifty utility to rename files or scan eachh file and populate the ID tags.

For those you who have no idea of what all of this is, here are some links:

Amarok - the best of music players on Ubuntu

Here's show-casing Amarok. A multi-talented music player that provides a very useful view of your music. If you are running Ubuntu Linux, then this tool is highely recommended - by me.

More about Amarok: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarok_%28audio%29

If you have any others to compete, i would be eager to see how they match up against Amarok

Seen is the desktop with the transparent KDE bar, menu opened and FireFox showing the the PCLinuxOS website.

Wallpaper from a build of windows Vista - a good wallpaper, shame about the OS it came from.

PCLinuxOS works perfectly on my desktop computer:

P4 2.4GHz
2GB Ram
128MB NVida graphics
Soundblaster 5.1 sound card
80GB boot disk (partitioned)
250GB media disk

There's that Start menu again

For those of you who thought Linux was confusing, here's a shot to show you that you could jump on a Linux box, fire it up, and pretty much feel right at home -- all the way down to the Start button and Start menu.

Microsoft is coming out with a feature similar to this in Windows Vista. It's already available on the Linux platform.

If you use the Quick Launch toolbar in Windows, you will find that same kind of convenience in Kubuntu. Here's a shot of three icons for the Desktop, an Internet browser, and an e-mail client.

I sound and feel like a hot dog seller at a baseball game right now. haha

Anyway, here's a shot of the installer. It allows you to easily find and painless install software, most of which is free, in Linux. In fact, finding most of the software and installing it in generally much easier and faster than anything with Windows -- even if you download direct from Microsoft's Download area.

Playing with the systray

Playing with the systray

This shot shows the systray, which is similar to the one found in Windows2000 and above. It also shows the trash can in the systray area, which is an option, but it does not have to be there. Right-click on the trash can and you can remove it.

The other thing you notice in the shot are the four desktops. Cool idea, and again, one more thing that's built into the system without having to buy or download extra software to do this: it's all part of the system!

Windows has some built-in options for customizing the look and feel of the GUI environment, but Linux offers a lot more -- without you having to download additional tools.

The Start Button in Kubuntu

A friend insists that Linux will not run on "computers made to run Windows," and insists with even more passion that laptops cannot run Linux, so I took shots of my screen (these are cropped to elminate the body keyboard and such) using a digital camera to show him the error of his thinking. Screenshots could be taken on "a computer designed to run Linux," he says, so this is his proof.

How many desktop images came with your OS?

If you're running Windows, chances are you only have the default Windows desktop backgrounds. If you have an OEM edition of Windows, you may have gotten a few extra backgrounds tossed in, including some with the OEM logo.

Kubuntu has a way to change the desktop image, allowing you to specify that you want to use a file on your computer, on the Internet, or allows you to download and install from a specific website that's built in. The site offers hundreds of images and phots from around the world. The best thing is that it's all free, just like the operating system!
