Web of Trust (WOT) is a people-driven security tool that warns Internet users about dangerous and suspicious websites. WOT has hundreds of thousands of users and safety ratings of 20 million websites, with over 1 million rated for child safety due to adult content.
WOT is a free browser add-on that works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. Mozilla has included WOT on their Mozilla recommended add-ons list. A bookmarklet for Safari and Opera is available.
WOT gets it site reputation data from the user community in combination with trusted sources such as listings from Phishtank. Reputation data is recalculated every 30 minutes, and is based on standards of trustworthiness, vendor reliability, privacy and child safety. WOT ratings are especially useful when it comes to online shopping and child safety where human input is crucial.
WOT ratings are shown on Google, Yahoo!, Gmail, Wikipedia, Digg, del.icio.us, AOL, MSN and other popular sites. WOT works with Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers. The user interface comes in 10 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish or Finnish.
