Here’s a cool innovative way that Porsche 911 engine is tested using a simulated virtual race track.

The system was used to test the upgraded dry sump oil system for the new 3.6- and 3.8-liter boxer engines powering the 2009 911 Carrera and Carrera S. The dry sump system now has a variable-flow pressure pump that needed to be tested extensively at the ‘Ring, but the new system can perform the same task whenever engineers want, and at a fraction of the cost.

Well, I’ve never expected this to come along, a 10/30W engine oil for cars that actually produces no smoke when burned. The label says 2-cycle so I guess it’s mostly for motorcycles at this point.

The oil biodegraded over 90% in a speedy 9 days, blowing the 28-day rate of decomposition required by the American Society of Testing Materials out of the water. Pretty impressive.

With Seero, I guess you can even geo-map your movies. It’s interesting as this movie is based on San Francisco streets and I know where they shot it.
It’d be way cool if all new movies came out with a PiP screen of Google Maps showing the location. (maybe one day when Google starts buying theaters…)

I thought it would be great to mashup famous chases with their GPS tracks. Keep in mind some of the chases cut from one place to another…so I tried to be as accurate as possible. Enjoy!

Here’s a neat DIY of automated RC cars that detect the walls and automatically (sorta) drift. If applied to real cars, this could be a great way to save lots of human lives in the future.
Auto, car chase, Cars, Consumer, Cool, DoItYourself!, DoItYourself!, drift, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets, Projects, rc cars, real cars, record player, ultrasonic sensorsThe car-chase was made by holding a camera on a stick, chasing the cars around. Some clips where made by placing the camera on a record-player. All editing was done in the standard “free” program that comes with a Mac, called iMovie. It is a nice program for light editing.. but phew, it was pushed to make this
The Earth2Tech Team grabbed some camera time with Google.org’s director for climate change and energy initiatives, Dan Reicher, at Google’s conference in Washington DC on plug-in vehicles. Reicher told them that Google will make investments in green cars this summer through it’s plug-in hybrid program, RechargeIT. That’s a big step beyond the four plug-in hybrids that currently constitute Google’s entire RechargeIT program. . . . For the full video check out Earth2Tech.

This paper origami V12 engine actually runs! You can buy plans from the creator here.
Auto, Cars, Consumer, Cool, Design, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, GadgetsBuilt by a self-employed Montreal man named Yee, the Origami V-12 is a paper engine that pumps just like real engines (with the help of electrical wires, a resistor, a motor and a battery holder). It looks complicated because it is: One V-12 engine consists of 195 sheets of fine-printed patterns. From those sets, 1,978 pieces are used in total. And it only weighs 3.2 lbs when finished. This makes your 1,000-piece puzzle look like a piece of cake.

Here’s the rocket car spotted in LA! Actually it looks more like something that “vibrates”….
This looks to be Baron Margo’s latest ride - a Chitty- Chitty- Bang- Bang-esque rocket pod with dualie rear wheels, a propellerized tail and more hand-polished aluminum-and-Bakelite controls knobs than Chuck George Barris could dream up on a meth-and-steampunk bender.
