Here’s a round of of best netbooks you can get from Amazon today from our Laptop Blog:
Eee PC 1000H is probably the top-of-the-line netbook to get right now as it offers a 10″ screen,160GB hard drive, Windows XP, and Atom 1.6Ghz processor. I like the fact that Eee PCs have been leading the netbook industry and you won’t be disappointed carrying this 3.1 pound beast in your bag. The battery life is estimated at 7 hours but I think as long as you get about 4-5 hours on this, that’s good enough.
There’s other models of Eee PCs, but this one is the that will give you bang for you buck as it has the largest harddrive.
MSI Wind 10″ netbook is probably the 2nd best choice right now as far as performance and speed goes. This MSI netbook comes with 10″ screen, 80GB harddrive, 1.6 Ghz Atom processor, Windows XP, and weighs just 2.1 pounds. I do like it but I’d rather get the Eee PC 1000H which comes with larger harddrive and longer battery life.
MSI Wind 10″ - $549.99 at Amazon
Acer Aspire One 8.9″ netbook is next with 160GB harddrive, Atom N270 processor, Windows XP, and 1GB memory. I think 8.9″ is too small for any netbook but if you must get an 8.9″ screen, get this one as it comes loaded with features you won’t see on the other 8.9″ netbooks. The 5.5 hour battery life should last you at least 3-4 hours.
Acer Aspire One 8.9″ Sapphire Blue $429.99 at Amazon
Acer Aspire One 8.9″ White $429.99 at Amazon
HP 2133 Mini-note is also a good alternative if you need a slightly bigger resolution than all the other 3 above netbooks. The HP 2133 netbook comes with 120GB harddrive, 1.6Ghz VIA processor, and 2GB of memory. The worst thing about this laptop is that it comes with Windows Vista, power-hogging operating system that’s not a good fit for mini-laptops. I do like is the 8.9-inch screen with WXGA (1280 x 768) resolution, webcam, and 92% full-size keyboard, which beats all the other netbooks.
But yes, this would still be my last choice as it costs as much as your 15.4″ laptops.
HP 2133 Mini-note - $640.98 via Amazon
Well, there you have the best netbooks Latop Pimp thinks. If you really must get a netbook, get the Eee PC1000H, it’s the best value and performance for your money.
Now, if you think all these netbooks don’t live up to your standards, get a regular laptop or better yet, wait about 6 months and you should see 5 times better netbooks.
Netbooks are still in the early stages and you need to consider the fact that they are “beta” products that manufacturers are still testing. After 6-12months, we should expect more netbooks that are faster and better.

I do admit to daily organization of my SVIDEO and audio cables to hook up my PC to my HDTV for online movies but here’s a new Wireless USB to VGA Kit from IOGear that will let you clone a monitor to another without the wires.
IOGEAR to Debut Industry-First Wireless USB to VGA Kit that Streams PC Content to An Alternate In-Room Display
Allows users to view spreadsheets and photos wirelessly on a larger screenIrvine, CA – August 25, 2008 – Consumers who desire a simple way to view content on a bigger screen can now extend or clone their desktop to their HDTV or projector and enjoy increased visibility by utilizing IOGEAR’s Wireless USB to VGA Kit, certified by the USB Implementers Forum. The product is the first of its kind to receive certification in the US, which guarantees that a device is backward- and forward-compliant with previous and future USB technology.
The Wireless USB to VGA Kit provides HD video streaming between a PC and TV or projector up to 720p within a 30-foot in-room range. Users can edit grids and documents, view photos or browse the Internet on their HDTV’s big screen, without any cable clutter. Consumers can also utilize a TV’s picture-in-picture function to multitask, such as watching a football game while viewing a Fantasy Football grid on the same screen. The Kit consists of one Wireless USB adapter to connect to a laptop or desktop and one wireless VGA adapter to plug into a VGA display.
The product is an ideal solution for surfaces that are difficult to wire, such as marble and fireplaces. By communicating between devices wirelessly and eliminating material waste, the Wireless USB to VGA Kit is an eco-conscious choice for users who want an environmentally-friendly way to streamline entertainment and work spaces.
“At IOGEAR, we strive to bring the most innovative products to market to meet the demands of consumers,” said Miranda Su, executive vice president of IOGEAR. “Our new Wireless USB to VGA Kit eliminates the hassle of multiple tangled wires, providing wireless communication between popular home and office devices.”
The Wireless USB to VGA Kit is compatible with Windows XP 32-bit (Service Pack 2) or Vista (32-/64-bit) operating systems. The product will be available in September 2008 for $229.95 (MSRP) from all major catalog and online resellers, as well as select retail outlets.

Just something to think about :-) I suggest the “Best Tool or Utility for SysAdmins” category. You can actually click the Back button and nominate it for several categories. Not that anyone would do that, of course.
Also, if anyone wants to jump in and help out with bug fixes and new features, please, by all means. Maatkit is a true open-source project as well as being Free Software. If you can follow coding conventions and understand Perl, I’m a very benevolent dictator and would gladly grant commit rights. As it turns out, since I’ve joined Percona I’m interested in a whole different set of things, and a lot of the itches I was scratching with Maatkit before are no longer mine to scratch. Some of my direct motivation to improve Maatkit is therefore reduced. (To those of you who have sent me gifts from my wishlist, thank you, I really appreciate it. My latest is the score to Crimson Tide, which is just fastastic.)
This release is a bugfix and maintenance release. Many of the changes are minor tweaks to shared code. I’ve also partially moved to a new documentation system that will ensure the embedded documentation is authoritative and accurate.
