Memtest86+

memtest86+ is a port of memtest86 that provides a more up to date and reliable memory (RAM) failure detection tool.

memtest86 only supported x86 architecture, whereas memtest86+ supports most modern hardware, and can also be booted off of a cd.

Memtest

Memtest86 is thorough, stand alone memory test for x86 architecture computers.

BIOS based memory tests are a quick, cursory check and often miss many of the failures that are detected by Memtest86.
