FishLAB

FishLAB is an easy-to-use Java program for tracking aquarium water chemistry. With FishLab users can monitor pH, hardness, NH4, NO2, NO3, Fe, and CO2 (the software converts units where needed automatically).

The main goal behind FishLAB is to help users manage a fish tank. It generates a PDF roster (using the iText library) that users can print and store near their fish tank. Users then enter this data (either directly or from what they have tracked on the paper roster) into the application, where it will generate more reports on the current trends in water quality.

Users can register fish and plants with FishLAB that are in their tank. With the inbuilt FishLAB database, the program can automatically update the desired conditions the fish and plants require, and it compares these to the current trends in water quality. If there are discrepancies then the user is alerted to such problems so that they can correct them before fish or plant death occurs.

In addition to the above advantages of the FishLAB database, the user can also scout for compatible fish and plants that they can purchase from their local aquarium. They can generate another PDF report with compatible species that can be printed and taken along, thus eliminating the need to do hours of research beforehand. Some factors that this search takes into account are things like fish aggression and positions in the tank (in addition to standard chemistry values).

Being open source, written in Java (works on Vista, Mac and Linux), and 100% FREE, FishLAB is ideal for beginner and experienced aquarium enthusiasts.
