Nordic Perl Workshop 2008 - Call for Papers

Stockholm Perl Mongers and its fellow Nordic Perl Mongers arranges the annual Nordic Perl Workshop in Stockholm, Sweden on the 24th and 25th of May (over a weekend). This is the second time the workshop is arranged in Stockholm and the 6th time in total. The venue for this years workshop is located right next to Vasaparken near Odenplan, in the heart of Stockholm. During summertime this is a green oasis where one can chill in the grass, watch people or take a break in some of the park's coffee-shops. Odenplan also offers a wide range of restaurants and pubs in it's vicinity. Nordic Perl Workshop is a workshop for the community by the community and we want you to submit interesting and inspiring presentations in order to make the workshop successful. Talk lengths are the usual 20 and 40 minutes but we might consider longer ones if motivated. Any subject is welcome as long as it's related to Perl somehow - from algorithms for social graphing and web-technologies to Perl5 core optimizations and language implementation targeting the Parrot VM. To submit a talk either do it online on the workshop website[1] or to claes@surfar.nu. If submitting via email please prefix the subject with [NPW]. Please submit talks no later than Friday 2nd of May. Accepted speakers will be notified Monday 5th of May. Apart from speakers the workshop also requires eager participants. Workshop fee is 500 SEK (~ 55 EUR) and there's a reduced fee at 250 SEK (~ 28 EUR) for students. This includes admission to the workshop and coffee. Registration is done via the website[1] which uses ACT so if you have attended a previous workshop registration is dead simple. [1] Website is not online yet but we're working on it really hard. The URL is as always http://www.perlworkshop.dk/ Important dates to remember:         May 2nd - Deadline for talk submission         May 5th - Speakers will be notified         May 16th - Registration closes         May 23th - Pre-work gathering for early arrivals         May 24-25th - Nordic Perl Workshop 2008 Hope to see you in Stockholm. Claes Jakobsson on behalf of the Nordic Perl Workshop 2008 organization team.

Dutch Perl Workshop, Program Available

markov writes "In two weeks (Feb 29th), the Dutch Perl Workshop will take place in the StayOkay Youth Hostel in Arnhem, The Netherlands. This meeting is primarily targeted on Perl users in The Netherlands and Belgium. The program is now available, and by accident about half of the talks are in English. So even if you are not able to speak Dutch, do not think our nightly wiskey BoF and games of Fluxx are a good reason to come, or if you do actually need some sleep at night, you now have a chance to learn more about Perl from renowned speakers. Please register a.s.a.p, if you want to join, because we have to give numbers for the beds and the included free diner."

OSCON Perl track welcomes proposals

Peter Scott writes "As brian noted, O'Reilly Media has announced their Open Source Conference Call for Participation. OSCON started as The Perl Conference in 1997 and hosts the 12th annual Perl Conference this year. As a member of the Perl track review committee, I invite you to submit proposals for talks about the great things you've been doing with Perl. Make our job hard! This will be the breakout year for Perl 6 (maybe this is the Christmas???), and we will feature it at OSCON. We don't assume that we already know everyone who's got a Perl 6 talk for us; if you've got something interesting to tell people about Perl 6, submit a proposal. We are equally interested in Perl 5 presentations. This has been an exciting year for Perl 5: the Perl 5 Porters released Perl 5.10; Strawberry Perl installs Perl on Windows so you have everything you need to install modules directly from CPAN; and Moose, a new object system for Perl 5, is gaining in popularity. We continue to hear stories about how Perl has saved jobs and money, and made work fun. Let's see your presentations on enterprise-scale Perl applications and infrastructure, and the coolest modules, hacks, and techniques for using Perl for Stuff That Matters. There's something special about the Perl community, and you can see it at OSCON thanks in no small part to the excellent presenters who turn out for it each year... so join them in 2008! See http://en.oreilly.com/oscon2008/public/cfp/13 for essential advice on submitting your proposal. The deadline is February 4, so start working on those proposals now!"

Dutch Perl Workshop 2008

markov writes "The fifth Perl Workshop in the Netherlands will be held at the spare day of the coming year: Friday February 29th. Your boss probably forgot all about that day, so no reason not to come — besides, maybe, that the main language is Dutch. Only a small number of English talks will be presented. Like most of our previous Workshop editions, the day is held at the cosy StayOkay hostel in Arnhem. It is easy to reach by train and car (free parking) See the DPW website for details. Speakers may enter for free, where business attendence pay 100 EUR and other people 75 EUR incl VAT. This includes lunch and diner. You may plan one or two nights at the hostel (at 37,50 a night), to extend the discussions, play Fluxx or have some drinks together. We still have a few openings in the program for presentations in Dutch or Flamish. Especially "new" speakers are invited."
