Attention BMI songwriters!! BMI Atlanta is now accepting submissions in all urban music genres including r&b, rap, hip-hop, neo-soul and pop for the BMI Unsigned Urban Showcase.

BMI writers can submit one (1) promotional packet, which should include a demo CD (2 songs only), a promotional photograph, a one-page biography, and day and evening contact phone numbers to the following address:

Now in its 26th year, Canadian Music Week is the single longest-running conference focusing on the business of music, taking place March 5-8, 2008. The Festival spans four nights of performances, with over 500 showcasing bands at over 40 live music venues in downtown Toronto.

South by Southwest Conference and Festival (SxSW) will take place in Austin, Texas March 7-16, 2008.

Attendees are also invited to stop by the BMI Booth #109 to meet the following BMI songwriters: Kristina Cornell (10AM- 11AM), Katie Armiger (11AM - 12PM), Jason Mathews (2PM- 3PM) and Gary Nichols (3PM –4PM.)

SPONY songwriter pitch-a-thon will be held at the BMI New York offices at 320 W. 57th Street, 6:00–8:00pm - open to all. CD check in starts at 5:15 pm and the doors close at 6:30pm (unless capacity is reached before then). $20 Admission Fee (Cash Only). Fee entitles you to enter one song (Limit one song per person).

The panel of judges will include:

The Manager of A&R for Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Rock and Pop Division. He's looking for mainly rock with an Indie slant, but is open to all rock and pop;

An independent Music Supervisor and Film producer who is looking for "radio-ready" songs in all styles for placement in various film projects;

The Manager of Music for the McGarry Bowen ad agency. He states that he is looking for: "the genre of music depends on what the spot is BUT there are usually certain qualities that creatives are looking for. There seem to be 2 types of music for us. The first is super-emotional, layered songs/compositions with a huge arch or build. The other is usually light-hearted, quirky, and upbeat with a pop feel. A nice whistle or singing 'la la la' or words like 'happy' or 'I feel free' make it easy to slip into a spot. Either way there is usually a melody or theme in the song that carries throughout."
