nouveau

a project which aims at producing Open Source 3D drivers for nVidia cards.

Nouveau is made of 3 components : DDX (2D driver), DRI (3D driver) and DRM (kernel component). The DDX and DRI use the MIT license, the DRM uses a dual MIT/GPL license. REnouveau is under GPL.

LinuxBIOS

LinuxBIOS is a Free Software project aimed at replacing the proprietary BIOS (firmware) you can find in most of today’s computers.

Theora

Theora is an open video codec being developed by the Xiph.org Foundation as part of their Ogg project (It is a project that aims to integrate On2’s VP3 video codec, Ogg Vorbis audio codec and Ogg multimedia container formats into a multimedia solution that can compete with MPEG-4 format).

Ogg Vorbis

Ogg Vorbis is a patent-clear, fully open general purpose audio encoding format standard that rivals or surpasses the ‘upcoming’ generation of proprietary coders (AAC and TwinVQ, also known as VQF).
