GlassFish Day Reports

Quick post before I go up to JavaOne for Day One (to hear about you-know-what).

ALT DESCR

Yesterday we had our GlassFish Day event. It went very well. The first session was standing room only, the lunch w/ Rich and Jonathan was very full too, and the Real-World and Partners sessions were good and informative. We also had a lot of traffic on our demo statios.

More on all of this later, but here are some related blog entries: Peter Pilgrim, Adam and Adam, again, Arun and Leroy. Photos from: Teera and Ludo.

More later...

GlassFish v3 Technology Preview - Now Available

Photo of K2

Jerome presented GlassFish v3 yesterday at GlassFish Day. It was the last session of the day and it was very hard core and, yet, the room was 3/4th full and the guy in front of me started clapping a couple of times. I have not seen many blogs about the session (yet?) but Leroy K liked it too.

All good signs for the next generation GlassFish, and you can join in too. The first GF v3 TP is Now Available. Check the Wiki page which includes Build and Development Instructions and Samples.

I just checked and I see that HK2 has not included the new GF Project Look; I'll remind Jerome or Kohsuke. Also see our Earlier Spotlight.

Thanks to Tim for the links!

Added - I forgot to point out that Jerome et al are doing two presentations on GF v3 at JavaOne this week. There is a BOF this (Tuesday) evening at 9pm (BOF-6678) in Esplanade 301 and then the TS is Thursday afternoon at 2:50 (TS-6503) Espanade 307-310. I believe the BOF is sold out.

See you at GlassFish Day!

Duke for GFv2

Hope to see many of you in 3 days at GlassFish Day. A number of us are going to be there - I'll try to create a list of Community Attendees at the wiki.

Look around for us at the GlassFish demo stations and elsewhere wearing GlassFish T-Shirts. Come ask us any questions about the technology, the community, or how to partner with us. GlassFish Day is free and you should register to ensure space, but if you read this late, just drop by.

Remember to ask us about the multiple freebies and special events through the day; we are going to hand out t-shirts, GF bumper stickers, USB memory sticks and some GlassFish Champion awards.

Summary of GlassFish Day - Free Event at Moscone Next Monday

GlassFish Day

GlassFish Day is Monday at the Moscone (registration page). If you are in the Bay Area and are interested in server-side Java you should come by to learn about GlassFish. Besides, it is FREE and it has good freebies!

The event should be of interest to newbies and experts alike. We will provide an introduction to GlassFish v2, showcase real-life deployments, talk about some of the GlasFish partners, and show the future, with GFv3 and more. There are many demos and keynotes with Karen, Rich and Jonathan.

Here are more details:

Logistics
GlassFish Day is Monday, May 7 (right before JavaOne) at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and it is part of CommunityOne. Lead contributors to the GlassFish community will present about most of the areas in GlassFish. CommunityOne has multiple tracks; the bulk of the GlassFish content is in GlassFish Day but there are important sessions in the Web 2.0, Linux vs Solaris, and, of course in the NetBeans Day track.

The bulk of the content is arranged as Sessions, Partners, and Demo stations but we also have three special guests: Karen Tegan Padir will kick off GlassFish Day, and we will have a special lunch session with Jonathan Schwartz and Rich Green. Lunch will be served and there is a reception at the end of the day.

The latest schedule should be at the Official CommunityOne Site and full details of GlassFish Day are at the GlassFish Wiki. We will post any changes and updates in real-time to TheAquarium. The current status is as follows:

Lunch with Rich and Jonathan during GlassFish Day

A vintage Lunch Box

The schedule for CommunityOne is now available. It may still change a bit but the portion related to GlassFish Day is pretty stable. One recent addition is that during lunch time (noon-1pm) we will host Rich Green and Jonathan Schwartz. This being JavaOne week, I still don't know exactly what they will cover, but they indicated they would stay for some Q&A afterwards.

GlassFish Day is free but registration is required and space is limited. I don't know if they are going to enforce the limit they told us, but, if they are, you'd better hurry up and Register.

Do you have something Cool to Show? - Submit it to GlassFish Day

Birth of the Cool, by Miles Davis

Do you think you have a cool application, extension, or any use of any of the GlassFish Technologies? Come and show them off at GlassFish Day!

Send us a description of what you want to show, ideally as a screencast. We are reserving one demo station to show them but we may expand the program if we get many good contributions.

If you are planning to travel to JavaOne, or if you are local, you may gain an opportunity to show them in person; if not, we will find a way to show your out-of-town screencasts... and we may add a prize for the best-in-show.

If you are interested, please contact Alexis (alexis.mp at sun dot com).

Spring at GlassFish Day

Spring Logo

The first of a series: I'm pleased to announce that one of the GlassFish Day pods will be dedicated to showcasing the Spring Framework. Among others features, I expect demos of the new Spring support in GlassFish WebServices.

Thanks to Rod Johnson for his willingness to join us. I hope this will be a good opportunity to improve further the integration between GlassFish and Spring.

For an overview of GF Day check here; and, for a free registration, here. And stay tuned for more announcements.
