Degrafa goes live

Degrafa is a Declarative Graphics Framework for Flex that simplifies access to the Flash/Flex graphics API. People familiar with Flex know that creating simple shapes, paths requires Actionscript programming and cannot be done directly in MXML. This becomes very cumbersome especially when creating programmatic skins for Flex. Degrafa aims to solve this by exposing the Flex graphics API in MXML. This opens up a whole new world of opportunities and creativity. If you think this is useful to you, make sure to drop by www.degrafa.com. We have recently announced a Degrafa Derby contest to award the most creative application built using the framework.

The Groovy development team and G2One are pleased to announce the release of Groovy 1.5.1 -- a bug fix release for Groovy 1.5 as a Christmas present. It fixes a few problems that were discovered after the release of Groovy 1.5.0. In particular: a dead lock in the Groovy classloader, and a problem with input streams with the Ant builder. Also, a problem in highly concurrent setups on multi-processor machines made Groovy run anormally slowly, and this new release also fixes this problem and makes Groovy run much faster using the full power of all the CPUs.

Seaside 2.8 Released!!

After a beta phase of two months we release the final version of Seaside 2.8. Most bugs fixed during this period were either long standing (already in 2.7), minor or portability related, Together with the dozens of Seaside 2.8 applications already in production today this gives a pretty good feeling about this version. A special mention deserves Roger Whitney, thanks to him we went from 99 commented classes to 144.

Clojure: a Lisp-dialect for the JVM - with focus on Functional and Concurrent Programming

Yesterday, Rich Hickey announced the birth of Clojure - a lisp dialect for the JVM. After just a brief look, Clojure is perhaps the most interesting language in the (now fairly large) family of ‘dynamic languages for the JVM’. It brings the power of Lisp to the JVM but have made some design decisions that in some ways makes it more interesting than ANSI Common Lisp. Here are some of the things that I find particularly interesting:
