GlassFish and the mainframe

100% Java logo

GlassFish is 100% Java when running on JDK 6 (there's only a very small piece of native code when using Java 5, check the recent JavaPosse podcast to learn why) and that has helped several people use GlassFish on platforms such as FreeBSD and Debian. More discussion is also going on about AS400 back-ends.

This forum thread reports GlassFish talking to a DB2 database sitting on a mainframe. Interestingly enough, this is one of the benefits of JRubyOnRails over plain/native RoR: better database support. Of course you can also save yourself some trouble and use JavaDB!

Are you running GlassFish in an "interesting" environment? Share your experience!
