Since most of you said gFTP is your FTP client of choice, it will be back in Beta 3. Thanks to everyone who gave feedback.
We are revisiting the inclusion of an FTP client in SimplyMEPIS, and would like some feedback from the community. Your choices are:
1. Use Konqueror for FTP (include no FTP client)
2. include gFTP
3. include KFTPGrabber
4. include kasablanca
Give us your input by posting comments.

There is a known problem of KDE print not working properly with CUPS 1.2. Users get an error message when attempting to print or view print manager. If you ignore the message, you should be able to proceed with no problem.

Morgantown, WV, March 21, 2006: MEPIS founder Warren Woodford has announced a test release of SimplyMEPIS 6.0, incorporating software from the Ubuntu Dapper package pools. This is the first version of SimplyMEPIS with an Ubuntu base.
Morgantown, WV, February 27, 2006: MEPIS founder, Warren Woodford, announced that three extras CD ISOs for SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3 are now available at the MEPIS subscription site.
The extras CD ISOs are provided as a convenience for subscribers. When a package is installed from the Debian pools, it may trigger an undesired update of many other packages. Also the Debian etch and sid pools have become more and more unstable during the past 6 months. The extras CDs avoid that problem by providing versions of packages that were available at the time the MEPIS products were finalized.
Morgantown, WV, February 9, 2006: SimplyMEPIS, version 3.4-3 is finally released. Any further changes will be made available as updates from the MEPIS pool. Look for 3.4-3 in the released subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and public mirrors.
Morgantown, WV, January 31, 2006: SimplyMEPIS release candidate, version 3.4-3 rc4 adds some last minute fixes. We plan for this to be FINAL. Further changes will be handled with in-line updates that will be available to everyone via the MEPIS pool. Look for rc4 in the testing subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and public mirrors. For up to 4 days, please send feedback to eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%64%65%76%40%6d%65%70%69%73%2e%6f%72%67%22%3e%64%65%76%40%6d%65%70%69%73%2e%6f%72%67%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b'))
It's been several months in the making, but we at MEPIS think that Simply 3.4-3 may be ready for final release. It works on our machines. However, we've heard from a few people in the community that things are not so peachy for everyone trying the latest RC. There have been a few reports that CD drives and SATA drives are not being recognized. But, try as we might, we cannot duplicate the problem.
Morgantown, WV, January 23, 2006: It is hoped that SimplyMEPIS release candidate, version 3.4-3 rc3 addresses the remaining major issues reported by the test community. Look for it in the testing subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and public mirrors. For up to 7 days, please send feedback to dev@mepis.org
If you use reiserfs and had trouble installing with RC2, that problem should be solved in RC2.1. Otherwise RC2.1 is the same as RC2.
The problem with dynamic /dev taking time to settle was more widespread than I realized. Now the installer has a time delay between each and every operation that might cause the hard drive dev entries to be rebuilt. I think I got them all...
Morgantown, WV, January 17, 2006: The latest SimplyMEPIS release candidate, version 3.4-3 rc2 addresses some problems identified and reported by the community. Look for it in the testing subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and public mirrors. For up to 7 days, please send feedback to dev@mepis.org
Last week Danno at A&B Computers in Cottage Grove, MN donated an old HP DJ660C to our test lab and we were able to duplicate the problem some of you were having with older printers.
The problem has been solved, at least for us. And other problems had already been solved. Now every printer we have, works with every computer we have.
We know many of you have been watching the site for an announcement about the latest ISO upload. Unfortunately, that is going to be delayed for a few more days. So, take some time off to enjoy the holidays, and then start watching the site again next week.
Thanks to everyone who has taken time to tell us about their printer problems and fixes. If your printer isn't working, please try the fixes and let us know if they work.
Morgantown, WV, December 14, 2005: After some minor--and major--changes, SimplyMEPIS offers another release candidate, version 3.4-2 rc1. Look for it in the testing subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and public mirrors. For up to 7 days, please send feedback to dev@mepis.org

The initial release of the MEPIS Extras CDs isos for 3.3.1 are available at the MEPIS subscription site.
The Extras CDs are built as a convenience. When a package is installed from the Debian pool, it may trigger an undesired update of many other packages. Also from time to time the Debian Pool is temporarily unstable.
