MEPIS has released a kernel update for SimplyMEPIS 7.0. The new kernels, version 2.6.22-18mepis1, contain all recent security patches from the kernel.org development team.
The 7.0 kernel has been updated to version 2.6.22.12. The kernel change logs may be viewed at kernel.org
Thanks to Carl at Naraanyaweb for pointing out that the latest kernel source package was defective. The linux-source-2.6.15 package has been rebuilt and uploaded to the pool today. Sorry for the inconvenience, Carl et al.
The new 2.6.15-27 kernel is now available in the MEPIS pool. This kernel is a security update from Ubuntu that Warren has reconfigured for MEPIS. If you are having minor hardware problems, you may want to give this new kernel a try.
There's a new DCC kernel in the works and we want your opinion. Warren builds the kernels for the DCC, which previously have been from Debian sources. However, the DCC plans to use Ubuntu sources for the next kernel. We think that the Ubuntu kernel may offer better hardware support. This leaves the question of whether or not MEPIS should switch to the new Ubuntu-based DCC kernel, or stay with our own Debian-based kernel.
