If you are running a SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Beta release, you can upgrade your system by using Synaptic.
MEPIS pools are usually updated within 24 hours of a new release. By doing an upgrade, your system should be approximately 99.9% the same as a fresh install. Since we can't guarantee 100% accuracy with an upgrade, we would prefer that testers still perform fresh installs before providing feedback. If you do an upgrade and submit feedback, please specify that you did an upgrade.
For your convenience, the oracle-xe-universal package is available in the MEPIS 6.0 pool. This is the free Oracle Database 10g Express Edition for MEPIS and Debian--it will probably also work for Ubuntu.
Please remember that we are in a development cycle right now and content in the MEPIS and Ubuntu pools is changing often. This means that packages may be temporarily broken.
Update from the pools with extreme caution!
Morgantown, WV, February 17, 2006: Per Warren Woodford, MEPIS founder, the upgrade packages for SimplyMEPIS 3.4, through version 3.4-3, are now available in the MEPIS pool.
The pool is meant for users of the 3.4 release and pre-releases of SimplyMEPIS. The upgrades may also work for earlier versions of SimplyMEPIS. Leading edge users who wish to know more about upgrading alternatives may visit the MEPIS.org forum or the MEPISLovers.com forum.
February 2, 2006: Until further notice, all SimplyMEPIS users need to be VERY careful when installing packages from the Debian Etch pool. Please don't do an upgrade on your "work" machines.
The pool is entering an unstable period which will probably last for a month or maybe two.
A problem, with the alsa driver on an Intel 945 mobo, was reported by Kenny at Blake Computers in Luray, VA.
So I updated the alsa module for the 2.6.12 kernel to version 1.0.10-3 and uploaded it to the MEPIS pool.
On December 23, the French Parliament will vote on the DADVSI Law, which stems from the European Union Copyright Directive and the American Digital Millenium Copyright Act. These laws make it illegal to circumvent digital media copyright protection measures in the United States and several other countries. If the DADVSI law passes, VideoLAN and the debian-marillat repository will be directly impacted, and several packages for playing digital media, including libdvdcss2 and Win32 codecs will no longer be available. The DVD Encryption Library, libdvdcss2, enables Linux media players to play encrypted DVDs, and VideoLAN is the only Debian source for this package.
The supplementary components for the 2.6.12 kernel, such as downstream source and kernel headers, are now available for download in the MEPIS pool.
Morgantown, WV, December 4, 2005: MEPISLite 3.3.2-1 rc1 has been uploaded to the testing subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site. For the first 24 hours, public mirror sites may be out of sync. For up to 15 days, please send feedback to dev@mepis.org
