Eclipse 3.2.2-4 has been recompiled for MEPIS and added to the MEPIS 7.0 pool. As usual, Debian Etch users are welcome to install this and other packages from the MEPIS 7.0 pool.
Thanks to some very inspired and dedicated work by the MEPIS community, the look of MEPIS 7.0 has been updated. This is a whole new coordinated look for grub, splashy, and the desktop.
The mepis-manual has been updated in the MEPIS 7.0 pool to, what is believed to be, the final version for the 7.0 release. Many thanks to the MEPIS community members who worked on the manual!

If you have SimplyMEPIS 6.0 or Ubuntu Dapper, these packages are for you too, that is if you upgrade to SimplyMEPIS 6.5, or at the very least if you to upgrade to Xorg 7.1.
The updated packages are in the pools. This for those of you who have GeForce 8800 SLI or Quatro FX ?600 cards.
I received reports that the Dapper version of GnuCash was very old, so I decided this is another package we need to maintain.
The Beryl 3D integration is ready for testing. Here are some brief instructions for getting started. Visit the forums to get guidance and to share your experiences with others.
Warren has been working hard to improve multimedia support for MEPIS users. The latest versions of Firefox, mplayer, and Mozilla mplayer plugin for 32 and 64-bit SimplyMEPIS 6.x and the latest version of the nsplugin wrapper for 64-bit SimplyMEPIS are now available in the MEPIS pools.
Also, Windows Streaming Video is now supported by default. This feature was not enabled in earlier builds because of concerns about reliability. It is sensitive to network congestion and should be used only if no other option is available.
The latest Beryl 3D desktop, version 0.2.0.rc2 is now in the mepis64-6.5 and mepis32-6.5 pools. To tryout beryl, you must be running SimplyMEPIS 6.5.beta5 or better. To get started, install the beryl, aquamarine, and emerald packages. Then while logged in, click on Beryl Manager in the System menu. Automatic integration of Beryl with KDE will be available for testing in a few days.
For the new release of SimplyMEPIS, X 7.1 and a revised kernel with NVIDIA 1.0.9746 have been added to the pools. For 32 bit, that's the dev32-6.0 pool and for 64 bit it's the simply64-6.0 pool.
This is a major upgrade and should be done with care, but several users have tried it already and they report success, even from 6.0-1. If you are using the nvidia or fglrx driver, please switch temporarily to the nv or radeon driver before doing the upgrade.
The MEPIS kernel has been updated to include better versions of the Intel wireless drivers. Old fuse and rt61 drivers have been disabled in the main kernel package. Uptodate fuse, rt61, and atl1 drivers are in a new mepis-extra-modules package.
In response to user requests, Opera 9.1 has been packaged for SimplyMEPIS-32 and SimplyMEPIS-64 and uploaded into the MEPIS pools. There is no official support for these packages beyond that provided in the MEPIS and MEPISLovers forums.
There is a new project and repository for the Penguin Liberation Front packages. These packages may be restricted in your jurisdiction. The URI for the pool is:
Warren has uploaded some new packages to the MEPIS Development Pool. REMEMBER: This pool is for experienced testers ONLY! If you are not a tester, you should not use the development pool (see Warren's post below regarding the dev pool).
We have a pool of new software packages that need to be tested before they are put in the regualr pool. You should not use this development pool unless you want ot be a MEPIS tester. The pool will be volatile and your system may break.
Hi all,
To give you more options, I've added a new pool that can be used in addition to the regular pool.
The old 6.0 pool is now at uri:
http://apt.mepis.org/simply32-6.0/ mepis main
To maintain backward compatiblity it can still be reached via:
Hey all,
I have uploaded Firefox 2.0 into the MEPIS pool along with a modified
mepis-auto that goes with it. This is just a repackaging of the official Firefox release. It is
95% "debianized." AFAIK, there are no plans for ubuntu to backport 2.0, so

The Xara Xtreme for Linux 0.7 upgrade is now available in the MEPIS pools for SimplyMEPIS 6.0 users. Xara Xtreme for Linux (formerly Xara LX) is a powerful graphics program based on Xara Xtreme for Windows. The open-source Linux version of Xara was made available earlier this year, and Xara LX 0.5 is preinstalled in SimplyMEPIS 6.0.
The latest upgrade of Amarok is now available for download in the MEPIS pool. The visualization plugins will not upgrade automatically, so if you would like visualizations for Amarok, you need to manually select the package libvisual-0.4-plugins.
We have received reports that the utility for manually selecting your monitor type in order to set your monitor frequencies is not working. This is because we inadvertently left the hwdata package out of the SimplyMEPIS 6.0 RC 2 build. If you're having this problem, you can install the package hwdata with synaptic or apt-get.
If you are running any of the SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Betas, and want to install KDE 3.5.3, first read our disclaimer, then follow the instructions:
Disclaimer: This has been tested at MEPIS and has worked for us. However, we cannot guarantee that this will work for everyone, so do this upgrade at your own risk!
If you are running a SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Beta release, you can upgrade your system by using Synaptic.
MEPIS pools are usually updated within 24 hours of a new release. By doing an upgrade, your system should be approximately 99.9% the same as a fresh install. Since we can't guarantee 100% accuracy with an upgrade, we would prefer that testers still perform fresh installs before providing feedback. If you do an upgrade and submit feedback, please specify that you did an upgrade.
For your convenience, the oracle-xe-universal package is available in the MEPIS 6.0 pool. This is the free Oracle Database 10g Express Edition for MEPIS and Debian--it will probably also work for Ubuntu.
Please remember that we are in a development cycle right now and content in the MEPIS and Ubuntu pools is changing often. This means that packages may be temporarily broken.
Update from the pools with extreme caution!
