In SimplyMEPIS 6.5 Beta 6, ntfs-3g is automounting partitions, so the installer fails because the partitions are mounted. The workaround until we release Beta 7 is to unmount any mounted partitions before running the installer.
We are releasing the updated Beta 5.1 for SimplyMEPIS-32. The original Beta 5 ISO had a couple of mistakes - Sun Java 6 was accidentally left out and the wrong version of the Fuse driver was included.
This app prepares your MacTel system for the installation of SimplyMEPIS 6.0-4. One of it's main functions is to resize and repartition your OSX root Volume. This is Alpha software, it could destroy your OSX root Volume. Use at your own risk. If you want be a test er of SMA for OSX, contact eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%64%65%76%40%6d%65%70%69%73%2e%6f%72%67%22%3e%64%65%76%40%6d%65%70%69%73%2e%6f%72%67%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b'))
We've uploaded the SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Extras CDs to the MEPIS pool and the public mirrors. They can be found in the mepis released directory. These 3 CDs are provided only as a convenience for users who can't rely on having a continuous fast Internet connection. The same packages are also available from the on-line pools.
A problem has been found in the installer that prevents a reboot if you select to "Auto-install using entire disk." The fstab file contains an invalid entry. We will get out an RC2 in the next few days to correct this problem. Meanwhile, there are two workarounds:
In SimplyMEPIS 6.0 RC 1, we have improved the way MEPIS handles pluggable devices, such as USB keys and CD drives. The changes will not take effect properly if the home directory has been preserved, so if you preserve your home directory, you will need to do some tweaking to restore the KDE defaults. This applies whether you upgrade from the pools or perform a fresh install. The RC 1 ISO and the updated MEPIS pools should be available Thursday, 6/15/06.
Since most of you said gFTP is your FTP client of choice, it will be back in Beta 3. Thanks to everyone who gave feedback.
Thanks to everyone in the community who has given feedback and submitted bug reports! Keep in mind that if you are testing for MEPIS, it is best if you do not update from the pools. We have no way of knowing whether a problem you report exists in the OS or if it is a result of an update from the pools.
I've found a solution to a problem with audio on the Intel 915 boards. I don't know if this is the only problem.
The mixer for hda-intel is very odd. The master volume has no affect. This means that unmuting the usual volume control and turning it up does nothing.
Hfsplus write support has always been iffy in Linux. In kernel 2.6.15 the write support for hfsplus filesystem has been disabled by the kernel team. As a result, it is no longer possible to upload songs to a Mac iPOD with MEPIS.
