Morgantown, WV, Sept 29, 2008 -- Warren has uploaded a second 8.0 beta, MEPIS 7.9.80-beta. MEPIS 8.0 offers up-to-date user applications delivered on top of a Debian Lenny core.
2.6.26.5 Kernel and VirtualBox-OSE 2.0.2 in 8.0 Beta Pool
A 2.6.26.5 kernel is now available in the MEPIS 8.0 Beta pool. BEWARE, if you have certain older disk controller chips, this kernel may switch your ide device names to hdX instead of sdX.

A New Update of antiX 7.0

Kernel Update Contains Security Patches
MEPIS has released a kernel update for SimplyMEPIS 7.0. The new kernels, version 2.6.22-18mepis1, contain all recent security patches from the kernel.org development team.
Compiz Packages Updated
The MEPIS 7.0 pool now contains updates including compiz 0.6.3-1, compizconfig-settings-manager 0.6.0-2, and python-compizconfig 0.6.0-1.
Eclipse Added to MEPIS Pool
Eclipse 3.2.2-4 has been recompiled for MEPIS and added to the MEPIS 7.0 pool. As usual, Debian Etch users are welcome to install this and other packages from the MEPIS 7.0 pool.
Anti Releases an Update to antiX 7.0

Update to MEPIS 7.0 Look
Thanks to some very inspired and dedicated work by the MEPIS community, the look of MEPIS 7.0 has been updated. This is a whole new coordinated look for grub, splashy, and the desktop.
MEPIS Package Updates: mepis-manual and compiz
The mepis-manual has been updated in the MEPIS 7.0 pool to, what is believed to be, the final version for the 7.0 release. Many thanks to the MEPIS community members who worked on the manual!

firefox 2.0.0.11-1 for the latest Mozilla project improvements
Updates to dia and mepis-config
Mepis-config has been updated to enable "Create New" Popup Menu items for OpenOffice Calc, Draw, Impress, and Writer documents.
Updates to Firefox and OpenOffice
In the MEPIS 7.0 software package pool, OpenOffice 2.3.0 has been updated to include recent bug fixes and Firefox has been updated to version 2.0.0.8.
Kernel updated to 2.6.22.12
The 7.0 kernel has been updated to version 2.6.22.12. The kernel change logs may be viewed at kernel.org
Update to Thunderbird
In the 7.0 pool, Thunderbird has has been updated to version 2.0.0.6.
