This document specifies Best Practices for delivering Web content to mobile devices. The principal objective is to improve the user experience of the Web when accessed from such devices.
"The Mobile Web Initiative's goal is to make browsing the Web from mobile devices a reality", explains Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the Web. "W3C and mobile industry leaders are working together to improve Web content production and access for mobile users and the greater Web."
"People with disabilities (using desktop or laptop computers) and people without disabilities who are using mobile devices have similar interaction limitations and they experience similar barriers when interacting with Web sites. There is also significant overlap between the design solutions for both."
The W3C posted an update to the Relationship between Mobile Web Best Practices (MWBP) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), something which I (for some reason) don't remember seeing go by in January when they posted the initial draft.
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is looking for a new team member to assist with building up a training program for mobile Web developers as well as with providing architectural and technical leadership and supporting Working Groups within the Ubiquitous Web domain. This is an opportunity for a unique individual to be part of the team responsible for the design of next generation World Wide Web Technologies working towards the goal of the "Web of Things" and to lead a variety of industry and user groups toward the development of technologies that enhance the functionality of the Web.
The Mobile Web Test Suites Working Group has released a new stable version of its Web Compatibility Test for Mobile Browsers, featuring more technologies and several improvements over the previous version. Read more about the design of the test.
