    Ubuntu Enlightenment(DR17 or E17) Window Manager Screenshots Tour

    Enlightenment has something to do with the light. It is a window manager that comes with special effects.Development Release 17 of the Enlightenment window manager represents an evolution into the next generation of desktop environments:

    the desktop shell. DR17 will provide integration between files and your environment in a seamless manner while encompassing a graphically rich and flexible architecture. It will not compete with GNOME or KDE, but be a completely new way of visualizing your desktop, based around the EFL which was built from the ground up for this task.”

    The Enlightenment project was started in 1997 as an FVWM (another lightweight windows manager) fork. The project has evolved greatly since then. The current stable version in 0.16. We are going to play with Enlightenment DR17 (Development Release 17), which will be called e17 in the article.

    Automatix2 Setup in Debian Etch

    Automatix is a graphical interface for automating the installation of the most commonly requested applications in Debian based Linux operating systems.

    Before installing Automatix2, make sure that the non-free and contrib directories in your primary debian repository in /etc/apt/sources.list are enabled. Automatix2 depends on one or more packages from these directories. Your primary debian repository should look like something as follows

    deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ etch main non-free contrib

    Install Automatix2 in Debian Etch

    Open terminal do the following enter each line and press enter

    echo “deb http://www.getautomatix.com/apt etch main” | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list

    wget http://www.getautomatix.com/keys/automatix2.key

    gpg --import automatix2.key

    gpg --export --armor E23C5FC3 | sudo apt-key add -

    Now you need to update your source list using the following command

    #apt-get update

    Install Automatix2 Using the following command

    #apt-get install automatix2

    This will complete the installation and now if you want to open the application you need to go to Applications—>System Tools—>Automatix you can see in the following screen


    This will prompt for root password and enter your root password and click ok


    Multimedia codecs License information just click on yes

    How to Upgrade Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) to Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)

    Ubuntu 7.04 is the current stable version of the Ubuntu operating system. The common name given to this release from the time of its early development was “Feisty Fawn”.

    Before Upgrading You need to remember the following point

    Take comple backup of your system before upgrading
    Now you need to upgraded my Ubuntu Edgy Machine to Ubuntu Feisty.

    We can Use Two methods to upgrade Ubuntu Edgy to Ubuntu Feisty

    1) Using GUI

    2) Using apt-get

    Upgrading Ubuntu Edgy to Ubuntu Feisty

    Method 1 - Using GUI

    If you want to upgrade using GUI use the following command

    gksu “update-manager -c ”

    “-c” switch tells it to look for upgrades at all.

    You should see the following screen here Now you can see 7.04 is available for upgrade click on upgrade

    Now you should see the release notes as follows here you need to click on upgrade

    Once you click on upgrade you might get the error “Authentication failed”

    You need to fix the above error for this open the terminal and type the “gpg” and press enter once you see the following message

    gpg:Go ahead and type your message …

    Press Ctrl+C and then start the install process again.

    Now you should see the following screen downloading upgrade tool

    You need to enter root password and click ok

    Preparing the upgrade in progress

    You need to confirm the upgrade process by clicking “Start Upgrade”

    Download in progress for all the required packages for Upgrade

    Installation in progress

    If you click on Terminal to see detailed installation in progress

    Cleaning Up is in Progress

    You need to restart the system to complete the Upgrade by clicking “Restart Now”

    Method 2 - Using apt-get

    Edit your /etc/apt/sources.list as root. Change every occurrence of edgy to feisty.

    Use any prefered editor. If you have a CD-ROM line in your file, then remove it.

    sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list

    or

    use the following Simple command

    sudo sed -e ’s/\edgy/ feisty/g’ -i /etc/apt/sources.list

    Now you need to update the source list using the following command

    sudo apt-get update

    Upgrade using the following command

    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

    Double check your process was finished properly using the following commd

    sudo apt-get -f install

    sudo dpkg --configure -a

    Now you need to Reboot your machine to take your new ubuntu 7.04 installation to effect all changes.

    Testing Your Upgrade

    You can check the ubuntu version installed using the following command

    sudo lsb_release -a

    Output Looks like below

    Distributor ID: Ubuntu
    Description: Ubuntu feisty (development branch)
    Release: 7.04
    Codename: feisty

    or

    Just type the following command in your terminal

    cat /etc/issue

    Output Lokks like below

    Ubuntu feisty (development branch) \n \l

    Install d4x Download manager in Ubuntu

    Downloader for X is a powerful graphical download manager. It supports both HTTP(S) and FTP protocols and has nice

    Install KDE Desktop in Debian Etch

    KDE is a powerful Free Software graphical desktop environment for Linux and Unix workstations. It combines ease of use, contemporary functionality, and outstanding graphical design with the technological superiority of the Unix operating system.

    If you install debian etch by default it will install gnome desktop.If you want to install KDE desktop environment you need to follow the following procedure

    Install the KDE login manager and core KDE Components

    #apt-get install kdm kde-core

    at the time of installation it will promt you for which login manager you want to use as default one kdm or gdm select one of your choice and press enter this will complete the installation.

    Now you need to logout from the existing desktop session to login KDE session.

    Once you logout you should see similar to the following screen to login here you need to click on session

    once it opens the session menu you need to select KDE and click on change session

    Now you need to enter username and password to login and click on ok you should see the following screen here you need to select you want make this is your default session or only for this session

    Now you should see the following screen to start configuring your KDE desktop first screen you need to select your country and language and click on next

    Next one is system behaviour and click on next

    Select Eyecandy-o-meter and click on next

    Select your KDE desktop theme and click on next

    The following screen shows you finish the setup by clicking on finish

    KDE 3.5 is loading

    Once it loaded fully you should see similar to the following screen as your KDE Desktop

    If you install debian etch by default it will install gnome desktop.If you want to install KDE desktop environment you need to follow the following procedure

    Install the KDE login manager and core KDE Components

    #apt-get install kdm kde-core

    at the time of installation it will promt you for which login manager you want to use as default one kdm or gdm select one of your choice and press enter this will complete the installation.

    Now you need to logout from the existing desktop session to login KDE session.

    Once you logout you should see similar to the following screen to login here you need to click on session

    once it opens the session menu you need to select KDE and click on change session

    Now you need to enter username and password to login and click on ok you should see the following screen here you need to select you want make this is your default session or only for this session

    Now you should see the following screen to start configuring your KDE desktop first screen you need to select your country and language and click on next

    Next one is system behaviour and click on next

    Select Eyecandy-o-meter and click on next

    Select your KDE desktop theme and click on next

    The following screen shows you finish the setup by clicking on finish

    KDE 3.5 is loading

    Once it loaded fully you should see similar to the following screen as your KDE Desktop

    Install d4x Download manager in Ubuntu
