Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic videogame in terms of both scope and content, as well as technical achievements.
RDR2’s world is rich with detail, from the bustling cities to its thrilling wildlife hunts (featuring over 200 species to hunt). Each detail was not created by accident: each was deliberate.
The World
Red Dead Redemption 2 offers an immersive world that few other games can match, where characters and the people you come into contact with react based on your actions and morality levels, giving it the appearance of being alive with its own life and requiring you to explore every nook of it; not many other games can replicate such an experience!
Red Dead Redemption 2’s world is hard to pinpoint on a map, even with dedicated fans’ best efforts. Being fiction, the game can alter reality to suit its purpose – sometimes this means making comparisons difficult between real life and its depictions in Red Dead Redemption 2. But this hasn’t stopped them from trying their hardest in piecing together Red Dead Redemption’s fictional universe and our real one! However, some dedicated players still try.
As YouTuber Kalemdt90’s fan-made video illustrates, the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is mostly focused around New Austin and its environs, while much of its rest of world consists of fictional extensions of American Midwest regions such as Louisiana – particularly its bayous and river inlets – Lemoyne is inspired by Louisiana while West Elizabeth appears to draw elements from several Western United States states such as Arizona Colorado Kansas Texas
Red Dead Redemption 2’s world is not only marked by obvious geographic clues; there are other noteworthy aspects as well. Some players have discovered an off-limits section due to glitches; nevertheless, others still explore it anyways and discovered an inaccessible cabin near Caliga Hall in Bayou Nwa that contains paintings that change depending on your honor level.
The Story
Red Dead Redemption transformed the Western genre nine years ago, immersing players into an expansive open world where moral decisions made an impactful difference. Now this sequel applies those lessons in another setting with similar senses of player control and responsibility.
Arthur Morgan is an enforcer for the gang that John Marston was assigned to take down in the first game, yet instead of being an overt cowboy he acts more like Lee Van Cleef – gruff, weathered and more intuitive than initially let on, Arthur is like John Wayne but without the charisma.
Van der Linde Gang members include Arthur as its leader. Each has his or her own quirks and personality which allow players to learn about them better than in most games; relationships and pasts can also be explored further for each character allowing a deeper experience with these 23 characters who become more than just Pekinpah-esque gangsters, they become family.
Abigail Roberts is an admirable woman – strong-minded, single-minded and direct in her approach – who never allowed early hardship to define her. Joining Dutch’s gang provided Abigail with the means to provide for her young son Jack as she believed that she could end the sex and drug trade that plagues their tribe.
Hosea Matthews, Dutch’s deputy and the gang’s master con artist. A master dodger and gentleman, Hosea knows how to play the system like no one else can.
Leviticus Cornwall, an oil, sugar, railway and bank magnate who finances many of the jobs undertaken by the gang is another key figure who serves as an antagonistic presence throughout. His unwavering thirst for power and unquenchable desire for dominance make him an easy target.
Captain Lyndon Monroe has been sent from Washington to the reservation to mediate between the Wapiti and US Army forces, believing war to be their only solution; but soon learns his duties go far beyond fighting for what he thinks is right.
The Action
Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place in a world dominated by violence. Bandits roam highways robbing and murdering innocent travelers while predators hunt their prey mercilessly in an unforgiving wilderness. Men of industry often step over bodies buried by war to realize their economic dreams; all this creates an atmosphere filled with fear and savagery perfect for outlaw groups like Van der Linde to make their mark.
Rockstar Games has once again exceeded our expectations with their Red Dead series. Red Dead Redemption 2, the newest entry, offers an open world adventure filled with story missions, side quests, challenges, randomized events and much more besides the main campaign itself; which should keep players busy for over 50 hours alone! But there’s plenty to discover once your main quest has completed its journey!
Red Dead Redemption 2 offers an expansive and uninhibited open world video gaming experience, where you can do virtually anything solo or with other people. But unlike most titles in its genre, Red Dead Redemption 2 does not want you to simply dominate its world; rather it wants you to immerse yourself within it, becoming part of its environment and experiencing it first-hand.
Red Dead Redemption’s gameplay bears many resemblances to GTA (both series are developed by Rockstar Games) with its mini map radar, horse riding mechanics and gun combat system; but the game deviates enough from these templates for it to truly stand on its own despite any occasional travel or bug issues; for the most part playing Red Dead is enjoyable experience!
There’s so much to do in this massively immersive game! From hunting animals and completing story missions, to exploring America’s heartland towns, cities, and countryside. Its incredible world design will leave an impressionable mark that is hard not to move you emotionally as it shows a culture at war with itself.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is an exquisite ode to its world, written from within by those responsible for its destruction and for audiences all across. A truly amazing accomplishment by one of today’s premier studios in video gaming.
The Characters
Red Dead Redemption 2’s characters are familiar from its predecessor, with some notable newcomers joining their ranks. Mary-Beth Gaskill stands out as an exceptional pickpocket who is considered to be among the best in her craft in all of Western. Although seemingly passive at first, Mary-Beth Gaskill can actually be quite smart; her intelligence often goes unrecognized by those around her; part of Van der Linde gang and loyal to Dutch, but feeling trapped due to an unwanted marriage with Mathilda Gray.
Lenny Summers is an all-round skilled criminal and member of the Van der Linde gang, possessing intelligence, education, and dedication to his craft. Alongside Arthur Morgan he takes part in various heists including Leviticus Cornwall’s train robbery or Valentine bank heist – also providing mentoring services to younger members such as John Marston.
Javier Escuella is an important member of the Van der Linde gang. Hailing from Nuevo Paraiso in Mexico, Javier joined Dutch’s gang due to shared ideals. A skilled criminal, Javier’s strong loyalty made him instrumental in planning and carrying out the bank robbery at Saint Denis.
Angelo Bronte, a rich crimelord in Saint Denis, engages in illegal activities such as bribery and smuggling to fund his lucrative activities. His actions serve to heighten racial tensions across the Wild West; Game Informer’s Jason Guidao described him as a remarkable character with complex motivations.
Abigail Marston is John Marston’s widow and mother to Jack Marston. While Abigail doesn’t shy away from performing more nefarious work, her greatest wish is for Jack’s happiness and her wish is for more time spent with him.
