SonicWall VPN – Secure Remote Access to the Company Network

SonicWall VPN

SonicWall provides SSL VPN solutions that enable remote workers to maximize productivity without compromising network security, easily deployable and user-friendly solutions at a fraction of the cost of competing products.

A cybersecurity provider with decades of experience, Trustwave provides excellent protection with flexible options and solid protection. However, their privacy policy raises some concerns among users.

Secure Remote Access

Business leaders face the challenges associated with an increasingly mobile workforce and require solutions that allow employees to remotely access corporate data and applications from any location. SonicWall VPN offers secure remote access to the company network with services designed to make connecting easy for workers from all devices.

SonicWall VPN SRA and NSA series appliances provide security to businesses of any size with their ability to support thousands of connections on one appliance. Users have secure and reliable access to company network through an SSL VPN client such as NetExtender while it also works with IPSec connections for maximum flexibility in secure connectivity options.

SonicWall VPN stands out by supporting multiple operating systems and devices, such as Windows, Mac OSX, Android and iOS devices. Furthermore, there is a broad selection of browsers supported and compatibility with most major Web-based applications. Furthermore, different pricing plans and bundles exist ranging from 1 device licenses up to over 1000 device packages for this service.

SonicWall also provides its customers with access to an extensive array of support resources, which they can access via either its Web portal or dedicated helpdesk. These support options can provide valuable technical help or troubleshooting resources; and our tests also showed an outstanding response and availability of customer service from SonicWall.

SonicWall VPN’s script-running capability provides users with another useful feature when connecting or disconnecting from networks, enabling users to map drives and printers, launch applications or open files over the network using batch files. Connection scripts can be configured both through proxy servers as well as directly connected with firewalls depending on an organization’s needs.

SonicWall provides remote access services with multiple features for remote access, including specialist phishing protection and filters for malware downloads. Their security tools are further boosted by SonicWall’s Capture threat network which offers real-time threat intelligence; businesses can choose to receive daily or weekly updates regarding new threats or vulnerabilities from SonicWall threat research labs.

Easy-to-Use Wizards

SonicWall VPN offers businesses powerful security features. Support for IPSec and SSL connections enable businesses to securely remote-access their internal networks remotely while offering other features such as anti-malware scanning and intrusion prevention as well as Capture Advanced Threat Protection that analyzes suspicious files from within the cloud.

Users who work remotely require a solution that is secure, flexible, and straightforward to manage – these qualities are all delivered by Dell SonicWALL’s Remote Workplace Gateway solution. Mobile workers can connect securely to mission-critical network resources using broadband, wireless, and dial-up connections via its VPN gateway while Web applications are also secured in this manner.

Global VPN Client software for IPSec-based VPN is easy to setup and configure, enabling encapsulated VPN traffic to travel freely across any IP network by employing Network Address Translation (NAT). Furthermore, Global VPN Client simplifies deployment and management by automatically downloading its configuration policy from SonicWALL VPN gateways and supporting various Microsoft Windows platforms – for both IPSec VPN and SSL VPN protocols.

SSL VPN is an ideal choice for remote access as it offers strong levels of encryption while being compatible with most browsers. Furthermore, unlike IPSec VPN which requires the installation of dedicated servers on corporate networks to establish, an SSL VPN can be set up quickly using SonicWall Virtual Office portal and NetExtender standalone client.

NetExtender is a free VPN software application that makes connecting to a SonicWall firewall easy from anywhere in the world. Simply enter its URL or click its icon from a SonicWall Virtual Office portal – even personal devices such as iPads or iPhones can access this app!

SonicWall SSL VPN solution offers a highly secure method of remotely accessing your business network and applications, protecting data and communications from potential hacker intrusions – making it an excellent solution for companies attempting to implement remote working practices securely. Software for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux systems is available; hardware features an ethernet port and USB port for seamless connectivity.

IPSec VPN

IPSec VPN services provide security services at the packet processing layer of network communication. While other VPN technologies rely on hardware-based encryption for secure communication, IPSec allows security arrangements to be added into IP packets at gateway level instead, eliminating changes on individual user systems and eliminating needless updates and configuration changes to systems. It can be configured either with an Authentication Header (AH) or Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP), both providing differing levels of protection.

SonicWall provides a selection of IPSec VPN solutions designed to work with all its firewall products, such as its UTM series. These can provide secure remote employees access to business-critical applications via Microsoft Windows and Macintosh computers; NetExtender’s clientless solution eliminates additional cost by bypassing having to install and update VPN clients individually on each user system.

SonicWall provides two IPSec VPN options – Global VPN Client and NetExtender – which are easy to deploy and use, requiring minimal administrative intervention. The Global VPN Client features an easy configuration process and simultaneously connects to multiple SonicWall VPN gateways to provide resilience; in addition, it supports broadband, wireless, and dial-up connections.

With NetExtender, remote users need only an Internet connection to gain access to the company network through an ActiveX control or XPCOM plugin for Windows, or an XPM component in Linux systems. Once connected, remote users have full access to all intranet-related activities including uploading/downloading files/mounting network drives/using web-based applications – just as if they were sitting next to you in person!

Pricing of SonicWall VPNs is comparable to other major B2B vendors, though upfront investment may be substantial in cases of Sonicwall firewalls which retail between $15,000-$25,000 each. Speeds may not be impressive but are generally acceptable.

SonicWall’s IPSec VPN and SSL VPN products offer robust security features backed by robust product documentation, support, and training resources. Their strong presence in cybersecurity industry is further demonstrated through an extensive knowledge base featuring frequently asked questions (FAQs), community forums, and product FAQs on their website.

NetExtender

SonicWall VPN’s NetExtender application provides remote users with a seamless, SSL-based link into a company network, enabling them to access files and resources as if they were local users. Users download it via an ActiveX plugin via their web browser, then it automatically installs itself onto their computers.

NetExtender software’s clientless architecture reduces both time and costs for end-user systems by eliminating the need for pre-installed or “fat” VPN clients; saving both money and effort in terms of installation time and expense. Furthermore, its availability extends across various devices such as Windows PCs, Mac computers and Linux computers further reduces expenses and time invested.

Users simply launch NetExtender by clicking on its system tray icon, entering their credentials (username, password and domain) and authenticating. A secure tunnel between SonicWALL security appliance and remote network is then established using SSL certificate negotiation to protect privacy and security for remote user.

Administrators can configure their NetExtender client with multiple IP address locations for specific users or groups on either Users > Local Users or Groups pages by using the NetExtender tab. To reserve one IP address per individual user, administrators can enter that IP address twice into both Client Address Range Begin and End fields on either Edit User or Edit Group windows of NetExtender tab – thus effectively allocating a single address per individual user or group.

NetExtender also features proxy settings; therefore if a network already has an established proxy server set up on the Internet, they can utilize it to connect to their SSL VPN service and route all traffic through that proxy server – with every packet secured using an SSL certificate that was negotiated through this proxy service.

On connecting to the network, NetExtender creates and saves a connection profile that contains SSL VPN server name, username, password and domain for future connections. Relaunching NetExtender will retrieve these configuration settings automatically and reconnect back with SonicWall security appliances.
